Roysth No1 moves from the Teifi Railway to the PBR next week. Following a retube and some boiler work we hope to see it in traffic during 2013 assuming no problems are encountered.
    regards
    Alistair

    Vulcan Progress Report

The locomotive is making steady progress, general painting and motion re-assembly is under way. It drew a lot of interest at the Model Rail event, especially from gentlemen of a Deltic persuasion, as this locomotive was the English Electric works shunter at the end of its active life. We can hope for some interesting photographic shoots one day.

    Tim

PS in partial answer to the post above, many years ago there used to be a chap at Embsay who made austerity safety valves. Alternatively, try those very friendly people at Ribble Steam Railway.

It was Charles Adams at Embsay, not sure if he's still manufacturing but presumably he has drawings.

    Vulcan Update.

Last sundays working party was well attended, with around a dozen volunteers engaged on reassembling the motion, cleaning up brake gear components and general painting.

We are trying to step things up and there will be two working parties in November on Sundays, 11th and 18th.

I hear that Swiftsure has arrived at Peak Rail from the Strathspey Railway. I wondered if this had anythig to do Steve Latham of LNWR Crewe becoming Peak Rails CME? He owns 65 and Sapper already and this is another of the gas producer austeritys.

Swiftsure needs a new firebox. It was sold from Bodmin to Strathspey a few years back and their Boiler inspector from Cornhills said it wasn't fit to steam when he inspected it. Reputedly they paid £44000 for it thinking it had 2 yrs left on its boiler ticket. A friend of mine was asked to go and fix some roof stays but the firebox was down to nearly 2mm in places! He wouldn't touch them as he knew it would only lead to damage if he started working on a box that bad. Its good its been sold on rather than left to rot in a siding. It was never going to be a long term loco for Strathspey anyway, their latest magazine makes it quite clear that they don't see their industrials as being what they want anymore.

Following problems with leaking tube ends in the firebox of RSH 7849, Moorbarrow, It has been decided to do a re-tube. So far about 2/3 of the 160 tubes have been removed.
