Back into Branksome on time and away briskly to Poole at 2210. Was a reasonably quiet evening and from the London end of platform at Branksome it was possible to hear Britannia much of the way from Bournemouth accelerating towards Bourne Valley and Branksome - she looked and sounded very well Dick

That brought a welcome smile to my face on a wet and windy Monday morning. No headphones to hand, but sounded really good on a pair of Tannoy Reveal near-field monitors. Nice echoes as she goes under the bridges at the top and accelerates away. Just a shame you didn't get a whistle.

No birdsong this time of year - I've just been editing some video from late April/early May and it's very noticable on the evening shot (about 7:30pm, IIRC) that the sound of the locomotives emerges from birsong then fades back into birdsong.

Glad to cheer you up on a Monday morning! It was pretty dark by the time 70000 passed and with only half a dozen people in the field, all in dark clothing I'm not surprised we didn't get a whistle.

No birdsong but the sheep add some atmosphere towards the end of the clip, not sure why really but they always seem to. But yes, a fine spring evening, birdsong and a passing steam loco working hard on a good climb, that's a nice thought for a Monday morning.

The sound at Arley, on the SVR, was rather good on Saturday afternoon. It was a fairly still day, and sound was carrying a long way. As well as all the usual steam railway noises, the church bells were ringing (a ring of 6, I think). There's something magical about that combination. Alresford on a Sunday morning or evening is another place where you can often hear church bells and steam trains.

Later on Saturday, at Safari Curve, we could hear lions growling!

    But I digress... ;-)

When I got up on Sunday morning at Bewdley, you could hear the bells ringing through the valley. Wandered over to MPD, two prairies and a pannier all in GW livery. Magic!
