That's a great site, but folk should be aware that the ship will be 'off plot' when in mid-Atlantic. The AIS radio receivers which feed the main marinetraffic.com server are on shore, & AIS works in the VHF radio band - basically 'line of sight', so once she clears the Canadian coast that'll be it until she approaches southern Ireland. From there to Liverpool you should be able to see her progress all the time.

Saxonia carried her on the outward voyage to the US, California Star on the return. I don't know about the Australian voyages.

Halifax to Liverpool, off the top of my head, for "Atlantic Conveyor", is about 8 days

Are you sure that Atlantic Conveyor is doing the transfer, speculation from the other side that Atlantic Compass is doing the trip, and is due to dock on Monday 24th September 2012 at 18:30??????

If that is the case, she is already on her way, and out of radar contact for the GPS system you linked to.....

Atlantic Conveyor is heading to Baltimore as we speak, then turns around and heads to Norfolk Virginia, then on to New York, then up to Halifax, where she will load the A4's and depart on Tuesday 25th and is scheduled to arrive in Liverpool on the 2nd October. (AFAIK)
    Cheers,
    Owd Sweedy.

Thanks for that - iirc space on the 'Atlantic Compass' was initially booked, but I believe that the trip to Halifax wasn't as prompt as originally hoped, so that would explain the rebooking on the 'Conveyor', if your 'gen' is correct, Owd Sweedy.

Yes Mark, there were delays in getting the loco's to Halifax, but plenty of "wiggle room" built in to the project at the planning stages to cope with them.
    Cheers,
    Owd Sweedy.

As has been mentioned - this length of train is normal over here -9,000-12000 ft for container trains , depending on traffic flows, especially to & from container ports

Sorry this isn't massively related, but would I be right in saying that the idea reported in Steam Railway of the NRM running a one off high-speed special as part of the celebrations has gone a bit quiet? Or did I miss an announcement one way or the other?

Ok, the Atlantic Conveyor is sailing toward Halifax as we speak, but I note that the Atlantic Condor is already at Halifax! Perhaps there will be a fight for the honour of carrying the locos!
