To be hauled by 34067 Tangmere between Paddington and Bishops Lydeard, and then doubleheaded by S&DJR no 88 and 34067 between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead giving it a strong S&D flavour. Times at www.uksteam.info at t0929d.htm

After recent events I wonder if the Theale water stop will go ahead? Notice it is only 50 minutes after the Woodborough water stop departure & that includes the Newbury stop.

That's an alien sight, a Spam Can with a Western reporting number, though I suppose there's probably a rare precedent somewhere, was there any non GWR engines to regularly wear the reporting numbers bar the Canton Brits ?.

Not sure about that. For some reason the train came to a sudden halt just outside Maidenhead but immediately restarted. Arrived at Slough at 22:58 where I got off. Departed 3-4 minutes later - all appeared to be well.

The photograph of the 7F and Tangmere at Castle Hill, WSR is superb. It certainly brings back memories of the double headed trains of the Somerset and Dorset railway. Unfortunately the photograph doesn't show the incredible glint as the two locos passed us.
I could have done without the dash from Crofton to Nethercott in the morning, but the remainder of the the day was wonderful. The Black '5' looks and sounds very good. As for the weather on Saturday, it was stunning. <BJ>

Thanks for posting these pictures. I was en route from Gloucestershire to Farnborough (Hants) on family business and it was a toss up whether to go for Tangmere somewhere in the Bedwyn/Crofton area or 92212 on the Mid-Hants. Seeing those WR-style reporting numbers on the front of Tangmere makes me pleased that I opted for the 9F in the end. The RTC are usually quite good about not sticking rubbish on the front of locomotives (I don't count WR-style reporting numbers on GWR locos as "rubbish"), but sadly, they do have the occasional relapses.
