    Pre-preservation the documented number of times a LMS ‘pacific’ did 100 mph was only on three occasions. Cecil J. Allen wrote that he thought A4’s probably touched the magic ton about that many times in an average week in the 1950’s.

    I’m not sure how often 100 mph has been achieved on level track in this country but 60007 did it on 23rd May 1959, the third time it reached that figure on that auspicious day.

    Gravity is seldom a hindrance when going downhill. :) The loco still needs a good front end though.

    I still reckon Snowdon Mountain Railway No.1 "Ladas" may well hold the record for a UK Steam Loco :)
