Can I ask a genuine question?
Is there any reason why every photo collection I have seen from this event, features Grosmont - Goathland - Summit with some occaisional shots of the Battersby runs but I have not seen anything at all of Pickering - Summit.

Was there nothing to attract the photographer?
    What can be done?

The issue Bryan is access. There are spots (some great spots) in Northdale, above Newtondale and around Levisham. I didn't go to the steam gala as I was working but in general steam only works northbound and virtually all engines are south facing, so the opportunity for a decent shot is quite rare. Take for example this shot at the Autumn diesel gala:

Now I love Northdale but steam drifting downhill does not make a good picture nor does a tender first engine, so there is little reward for a four mile round walk!
I personally do not understand why occasionally engines cannot face north or at a gala there be more mixing of directions, but it has been this way for some time now.

So the NYMR could mix it up a little and there would be more opportunities to use this stunning part of the line.

    Cheers
