I'd say that 7812 has probablly been the most reliable loco on the SVR of late and single handedly kept a steam presence earlier this year. No wanting to tempt fate but the Pig has also settled into a period of reliability follwing it's shakey start, hopefully 2857 will now do the same. 5164 has also been an excellent performer until it's own summer hiccup of wheel flats which in fairness may be linked to poor tyre materials rather than loco or crew issues, according to the last issue of SVR news. 43106 and 7812 were more than likely worked as intensively as any loco has worked since steam days this year.

Please could someone enlighten me a bit more about the members' & shareholders' weekend? I recently became a member, and am considering coming, but a trawl through te SVR website and the on-line forum only provide the scantiest of details. There are, apparently, opportunities to see parts of the railway's operations which are hot normally accessible, and I presume that discounted fares apply. Any more detailed info would be welcome, thanks.

Hmm the information is very scanty unfortunately. I'll try to oblige.

Running a Class C service both days, the Engine House and Kidderminster Railway Museum will be open of course, as will be Bridgnorth Works for a look round (I think, I don't know). Bridgnorth and Bewdley North Signal Boxes will also be open to visitors with Guides on hand to explain the workings without impeding on the duty Signalman's work. Various SVR-affilliated groups with their stalls out - Hagley Hall, 4930, 813 etc., and a presentation at Bridgnorth on the planned works there.

Normal fares are in operation, so as a member you get half price of a normal day rover
I would expect the look behind doors bit to be occurring. I'm sure staff will be able to inform you of more details.

Further info has been posted on the SvRA forum about this weekend - sorry to pollute the SKP forum but this is where the question is

It's been suggested I post up the following to a wider audience:

"In the absence of the info being put on the official svr website, suggest links from natpres etc can be posted to

    Working Members

    or to

    http://forum.svra.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2624"

    The post was:

    " Members and Shareholders weekend

Membership purchased on the day will allow purchasers to travel at members fare
Table C will be in operation using T9.
A hand out for the day will be available.
Shares will be available to purchase on the day at Kidderminster Signalboxes, MPD will be open.

    Kidderminster:
Three stands representing Holdings, Guarantee and SVRCT plus locomotive groups.
Holdings Share stand will be situated to the right of the door entering the concourse from the ticket office, the Station Master Office will provide a private area for the sale of shares; shares can be sold by card.
There will be a television in front of the first pillar provided by DRP group on which the new SVR promotional film will be displayed.

On SUNDAY the presentations will be in the Railway Museum at:
    10.30am
    12.15pm (lunch for invited guests)
    3.00pm

    Highley:
A chance to get on Hagley Halls footplate.
The promotional film to be played in the cinema.

On SATURDAY the presentations will be held at the Engine House:

    Bridgnorth:

    Hope this helps

Just to clarify...Bridgnorth, Bewdley North and Kidderminster signal boxes will be open. Shares cannot be purchased from Kidderminster signal boxes - a full stop is missing in the above quote!

The signal boxes will have guides to show you round - I will be such in Bewdley North on Sunday, come and say hello!

This week is charter week down on the valley. Bizarrely it is southern flavour all week with various combinations of a T9, Bullied pacific and a Maunsell mogul!
I chose to go to Matt Fielding's charter yesterday with the T9. I missed most of the SVR gala with work and the weather was lousy the day I could make it so it was with much anticipation I drove under blue skies from York to get to the valley only for a solid bank of cloud to come in place 3 miles short of Bridgnorth, arrgh!
Once we got under way, we showed a lot of patience and with good timing from Matt and the crew, we managed to get some sunny results in most locations, so all in all it was a cracking day. many thanks to Matt, Kev and his mate on the footplate, John the travelling signalman and the friendly guard(sorry I didn't get your name!), I hope the rest of the charters fair as well as we did!

Thankyou Macko for posting the wonderful photos of the T9 . Reminds me of the North Cornwall line.

That is a big disapointment to me probally not going now assume this means 4566 has failed and was the only loco aloud in combination over victoria bridge with the T9

The U and the T9 were allowed to double head over Victoria Bridge at the Gala.

Although I too am a little disappointed that the T9 can't take it's turn, this weekend is not just about 30120. I'd urge you to attend if you can, after all this is undoubtedly one of the most significant members & shareholder's weekends in our railway's history. When are we, as a membership, going to get a better chance to shape and influence the development of the valley?

Having been on the receiving end of being banned from double heading over a viaduct today it may be the explanation as opposed to 4566 failing

Aaaaa a lovely narrow minded view of Natpres there. ( Sorry bad night at work, maybe its best not to post )

As explained in the ASG topic. The ballast retaining boards on Vic bridge are life expired, a regular line walk inspection on the thursday before the gala, they were found to have pulled the bolts through and thus risk of completely failing and severing the line (again). Double heading is banned for certain loco combinations but we have precedent after 43106 and 41241.

Like Andy said. This weekend is not about one single loco its about the future of the Severn Valley Railway. Yes it would have been nice to have the T9 working but we have the U boat, 34053, 1501, 42968 & 2857. Thats not bad for a weekend in the middle of October. On a quick search, other thanthe KWVR gala, no other railway has that level of service this weekend.

While I can understand the SVR's point of view, Ruston does have a point, I imagine there will be some who were going to visit for the T9 who may give it a miss now, with the exception of the U Boat and 42968, there's plenty of time (years even) to see the rest of the home fleet.

i was only going if the T9 had been running as there is lots of time to do the rest of the home fleet again after attending on the friday of last week for the diesel gala and going to the great central the same weekend its hard to justify spending money to go again.

Just spotted this, so a bit late now, but we had 5 locos out both days at the NYMR for Wartime Weekend, but a search would probably not have revealed this as the locos in use are not the main promoted feature of the event.
