It appears that there has been a late change of route for this train from Sheffield to London Euston. It now runs Diesel hauled with 46233 at the back from Derby via Leicester to Nuneaton Abbey Jc where it reverses. The Duchess then heads to Euston via Northampton and Bletchley. The return is by the planned route behind 46233 via Bletchley, Bedford and Oakham to Derby. I am not sure if this is a gauging problem ?

Oh blow! I was going to get some photos over Harringworth then nip the other side of Kettering for some more. Oh well, it's Long Buckby instead. Can't even try on the return trip as it will be dark. Will listen out of the back window instead.

Gauging problem at sharnbrook apparently, appears that it's only on up journey though. The timings seem to have gotten very early in the morning too.

Any suggestions for a good place to view / photo the incoming train to Euston (Preferably within the Old Gits' Card (Freedom Pass) zones)? Thanks

I will probably be heading to South Kenton tube station, on the Bakerloo line beside the West Coast Main Line. There's also a footbridge a short walk north of the station offering good views. Also I've heard Carpenders Park on the Overground has good views though I've never been there myself. Not sure whether an old git card stretches that far - it's a few years until I qualify!

Both of those locations work nicely for down trains, i.e. for the return. I got 5043 from the South Kenton footbridge (YouTube) last year and Lizzie at Carpenders Park (frame grab) in 2010. However, I have my doubts about them both for an up train. If you want the actual arrival at Euston, then the spot used by my colleague in the above YouTube clip, on the far west side of the station, might work.

    Thanks guys.

I'll probably have a go at South Kenton tomorrow. Fingers crossed for the weather!

    Cheers!

PS My old git card lets me go as far as Watford Junction on the Overground - Happy days!!

If your card allows you to get to the junction go there for the both legs as you'll be under the wires - much better than South Kenton or Carpenders Park (the southbound approach is on a long tight curve so she'll be on top of you and away before you know it - also your outside the wires so all the stanchions ruin the view!) and you've much less chance of being bowled by a Pendo or local stopper!

Sadly I won't be out for it tomorrow as I shall be putting in a shift at the MHR - got a brake van to finish :D

look forward to seeing the pics/vids as they are posted.

As a suggestion would Harrow & Wealdstonbe not be sufficiently open for incoming arrival ?

Was 20 early away from Nuneaton but believe was held at Rugby.

Beware, appears to be tacky headboards on tour day again...

Two WONDERFUL photos from David and Camraman. Excellent stuff. She should be sitting at Willesden now; how very appropriate. Just a thought David; how about the paintshop !! But that would ruin the ACTUAL event, perhaps. Pete

I'll have a play about with it later and see but suspicion is it might be beyond my skills without making it look obvious, a bit of grain due to the light doesn't help.

I usually use the "clone" tool to get rid of something undesirable,, but the curved line between the smokebox and the door being at that different angles in the places id usually clones from presents an issue.
