There's something wrong with the times on UK Steam Info, as it shows over 3 hours between Alton and Bentley.

Doh! I knew there was another filming job mentioned at the AGM but couldn't remember it was a Sky commercial when I wrote my last post. Will have to keep an eye out for that advert.

Yuk! Shows us what the rest of the GWML is going to look like soon with all that overhead clutter.
Lucky we have avoided it for so long.

Enjoy it whilst you still can................................. as of April next year the wires start to go up....................... Shame they couldn't have developed 3rd rail technology, then you wouldn't have all that unsightly mess!

Is this speculation or fact? How could NR justify such a ban?

Well, AFAIK, Network Rail has put a block on charters through Reading (possibly all charters but certainly steam) from around Easter 2013 whilst all the electrification and other work is taking place. So for example, and according to the MNLPS, the OE next March goes the normal route to Bath/Bristol but in July goes via Salisbury.

Yeah, still difficult to imagine the likes of Twyford with wires, and Reading station is changing with the structure almost daily, what with canopies and buildings disappearing and the new stuff taking shape. Real eye opener though for those who are interested in engineering and buildings. But when it does go electric, who will take on all the so trusted HSTs I wonder. They're 'mature' but are still trusty, comfortable and the fastest diesel 'locos' in the world I believe.
