    One of them makes an appearance in "Krakatoa: East of Java" and is without doubt the highlight of the film.

    Wonder if Statfold could be persuaded to add a metre gauge line!!

    It would be wonderful to see a couple of the British-built engines repatriated, even if only for static display.

    ..from what i've seen and heard about this scrapyard nothing has ever been sold ! The three Couillets from the 1880's in line is just unbeatable almost too hard to believe, there are photos of them on flickr at the yard.

    Funny, I always thought that the highlight was discovering that Krakatoa was east of Java, when all the maps show it to the west!
    But I agree that the BHs would make a very welcome addition to the UK scene.

    About twenty years ago a group I as part of tried to bring one or two back to a project based along the former Manchester ship Canal at a place called Moat Wheel!!!! or better know as the Manchester ship canal railway's workshop, sadly Man City Football club and Sports UK decides that a new sport arena should be built on the same site so that stopped one of Britain's most interesting heritage railway projects in its track.

    What was so special about the site, was it had various gauges from 2ft 6ins, 3ft, Meter, Standard, 5ft 3ins all laid out, I think one of the reasons the site had been chosen was that is also linked up to the former Beyer Peacock works site.

    Interesting Colin, but I think that your geography is slightly iffy, Mode Wheel - the former MSC Loco Workshop, is in Salford and the other side of Manchester from Gorton, where Beyer Peacock where situated.

    It sounds like it would have been an interesting project, the Mode Wheel site was well equipped for loco maintenance, etc., a real pity that it is gone.
