Great news about 5029 and thanks for posting this report Ben. I look forward to her return. My favourite Castle as I had one of my first ML runs behind her to Kingswear. I hope she takes residence at the SVR as it is far better to have her in use more often. Any chance she might visit the MHR again in the not too distant future? I missed her last visit as my car broke down on the way to the MHR!

Great news for Nunney and will be lovely to see her back where she belongs as soon as possible, you gentlemen do great work!

Little worrying that parts from 7027 are being used though, whilst they no doubt can be replaced it does suggest that there are still no plans to restore her in her own right.

If it looks right, it is right. Looking right and being right is a job for the NRM. Looking at the SVR, which I think everyone will agree is a splendid evocation of the past, how many alterations have been made to the locos? Just thinking off the top of my head, I can think of bottom inlet valves to the water tanks, different springing, different draincocks and different piston rings - not sure if that list is correct and well aware it isn't definitive.

Hardly really qualifies as 'parts' does it, its just one item? The complete lack of any work on 7027 suggests much more than a lubricator being used elsewhere to me (please correct me if I am wrong)

I had been meaning to ask, and all this talk of thingies being bolted on to 5029 prompts me to post it here. What is the device attached in front of the steam pipe on 6000, as shown in the attached photo?

    Thanks for any info

Looks like a mechanical lubricator to me...exactly what we're currently talking about coincidentally!

Yes, this is a mechanical lubricator, identical to the one that will be fitted to 5029. For those that wondered, it is driven from linkage connected to the RH Expansion Link.

Having been past Tyseley everyday for the last two weeks to and from work. It looks as if 5029 has emerged wearing her new livery. Any information regarding her re entering service ( and possibly that move to the SVR)?

Well, that's news to me! We have fitted the smokebox numberplate brackets and have applied primer to the top of the boiler but that is about it. A full repaint will commence once the engine is back in one piece.

Work is still progressing with the loco. The wheels have returned to Tyseley and are currently being machined and profiled, along with the axleboxes; the main focus at the moment is to get the loco back on its wheels. All cab pipework has been altered for the new lubrication system, and new pipework is being manufactured for the cylinder and valve lubrication.

Colin, same as you I pass TYS everyday at work, 4936 is probably the prominent one in the shiny coat of paint you've seen, recently arrived from her exploits. Took a while for it to click myself :)
