I dunno how you had the bare faced cheek to say that when looking after a Bulleid Pacific ;)

How can you say that a rebuilt and an un-rebuilt Bulleid look the same?

Easy, a Bulleid looks only like another Bulleid - essentially just two classes - whereas the "Pick n Mix" Swindon stable has umpteen pointy boiler look a likes. :)

Im not buying that one, they are still referred to as "West Country Class" & "Battle of Britain Class" despite being the same :nono: ;)

    Call yourself an enthusiast?

I have a 6 year old grand-daughter who can tell the difference between a Castle and a Hall. However I don't think there will be many who can readily tell the difference between Bulleid pacifics.

    regards

    Bob,
It's a joke - hence the smiley :) at the end of the message. It's all just good fun from both sides. Don't take "mess room banter" so seriously.

Who's taking it seriously? It's one of our best messroom wind ups, and almost always ends up with the recipient lamely claiming that it was only a joke. Regrettably it is also true.

    Regards
    Bob

Whatever. Just get 5029 back on the rails so I can get a ride behind her at long last. I'm seriously lacking in Castle mileage.

Steam Dreams are planning to use Nunney to pilot Tornado over the Devon Banks on the 9th March 2013 ( letter received from Steam Dreams today). If Nunney is not available it will be Braunton. Good to see that the Castle is the first choice.

A Castle on its own would be much better. Now 5029 on a Royal Duchy would be very tasty indeed.

My Castle mileage is sadly lacking. 5080 from Tyseley to Stratford (back of train) and again from Old Oak Common to Paddington (not exactly a thrash) so hopefully I'll put that to rights ere long.

Could be an interesting contrast, what with Tornado being blue n'all.

Progress is being made with 5029. All the new lubrication pipework is more or less complete, the modified cab pipework is complete, the bogie is back under the loco (with retyred wheels and re-metaled axleboxes), the driving wheels are in the process of being machined and the mechanical lubricator has arrived at Tyseley from Crewe. The support crew have been busy cleaning and painting various components (including the driving wheels), completing other small tasks have (such as cylinder cock overhaul etc) and refitting the support coach 'workshop', as well as completing an internal repaint of the coach.

I see 5029 is now aadvertised on a tour over the Cotswold route on the 9th March as well as Tornado pilot same day

And this is all before Ben and the team have completed their work

I'm sure the 5029 team work really hard but even they'll be pushed to pull that one off!

I have some Castle mileage with 5029 from Taunton to Plymouth and back to Taunton but it also counts as A4 mileage as she was double heading with 60019. I think the only time I've been behind a Castle but have seen 5043 twice, both at York last year.

Steam Dreams advised in October that they planned to use Nunney but if not available Braunton would be used instead.
