I am rather curious to find out when the last time an A4 was last along the Tyne Valley line (Newcastle - Carlisle) in steam.
    Does anyone know?

A while back I think. Best to start working forwards from July 1988 when Mallard did a trip.

The last one I can find on UK Steam is 26/7/08.

Number 9 is an excellent replacement for Ollie on this trip, but as posted elsewhere, it's bad luck for the 5305LA boys & girls; my sympathies to them. Yes, A4s on the Tyne Valley have been in short supply in recent years, yet it was one of the first approved routes after the Return to Steam in 1971; 'Gresley' made several runs along there.

Whilst sypathising with the 5305LA group remember that 5405 herself has worked frequently during the summer and to my knowledge, without problems.

Indeed so, and 5305 is a fine loco, but with both Ollie and 'Lamiel' having problems, the buggeration factor does seem to be working against them :(

Oliver Cromwell seemed to be performing well at Barrow Hill. I assume she was restricted to light duties though

Booked on The Hadrian a few weeks ago, Ollie would have been great, but the A4 is even better for me.

According to train crew on today's 'Weardale' tour, all is in place for Saturday's trip. I'm travelling on this one with my wife; we're trying the Premier Dining option this time; really looking forward to it :)

57's are noisey horrible things even when in engine only. Certainly wasn't helping over the Midland.
