The Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway will be holding a 4 day steam gala from Friday 24th until Monday 27th May 2013. This will be our first gala event since the GW 175 event in May 2010 and full reconnection of the line following our major landslides. We are working hard to make this a must not miss event as we now have even more to offer than in 2010. Watch this space and the GWSR website for details as we release them. Thanks

Same weekend as the proposed Steam on the Met. Hopefully I'll be able to find a way of attending both these events mind, as enjoyed my visit to GWR175 and last year trip to see 2807. Looking forward to what you guys come up with :)

The monday of the event is the bank holiday and also the start of half term week in Gloucestershire, we hope that many of you will be able to make at least one day to come and ride the complete line behind some (hopefully) interesting visitors.

    hey,
is there any clues to what engines will be making an appearance at the gala
and will there be any new additions to the railways operational fleet maybe such as for an example such as 44027 and 35006 and maybe 4270.
which could make their debuts at the gala and possibly if 44901 is still going to the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway maybe they could pose it with
    6984 Owsden Hall.
    Many Thanks
    YRM,

One thing I would like to see is full line Cheltenham to Laverton passenger trains, I'm slightly disappointed that this doesn't happen too often during normal timetable days throughout the year, the changing idea is good and brings something extra, but its nice to be able to sit down on one train and ride the entire railway.

I think the issue running trains along the whole length currently is a lack of an operational runaround at Laverton.

I'm a (fairly) substantial shareholder in the GWSR, but the only indication I had of this event was on here.

I'll be there regardless of what Loco's will be booked as it will just be nice to be back at the place operating as a full line again, will be paying for a Lineside pass too assuming the state of play where they are concerned is the same as in 2010.

We are in the process of setting up a web page linked from the main GWSR site and this will include all details and updates as they happen. We are aiming to be able to sell pre -advance tickets on line from the new year with the normal reduced rates for buying early. We have a committee meeting next week and I will be making sure that as we get things finalised they are put up onto the web. As for locos, I am awaiting contracts for two guests and until these are finalised it would be foolhardy to say anything publicly.
As for Laverton, the run round loop I'm led to believe will be operational for the start of the new season, but for the gala are looking at top and tailing for the section as a) you cannot alight at Laverton and b) it speeds up the time to run that section. Until the timetable is approved - and we hope that wont be long, many things are still going on. If you have seen the blog page for the C&W at winchcombe you will be able to follow progress on the spruce up and FTR exams on our wagon fleet which we hope will make about 12-15 vehicles. Finally, this weekend see's the privately owned Gotherington station grounds open for visits and we hope this will also be the case for the gala.

As others have said, I'll be more than happy to just see the railway run it's entire length and be in full swing with an intensive timetable, so the railway can really show what it can do.

I'll concede though that I'm also looking forward to the potential visiting locos line up. Then theres the railway's own fleet to be excited about aswell, with 4270 most likely to be ready by then, I'm not so sure about 35006 though its possible, but its very unlikely 44027 will completed by then.

I am wondering actually, when will 44901 be arriving? Sometime at the end of this year perhaps?

Annoyingly, this falls into my summer exam period at uni and I won't know the timetable till a fair bit closer to the time. Still I might make an effort to visit. I look forward to the announcement of visiting locos and pray for nicer weather than my last time.

The GWR175 event, on the Tuesday I think, certainly mid week. And it started off overcast and turned to drizzle for a fair chunk of the day.

Nice to see the B12 making a trip away from the North Norfolk, gives me the opportunity to see it since this is a bit closer to home for me! I'm sure most would agree that it would be great for the Southern loco to be 'Cheltenham', would be very fitting to have it attend.

How long does 7903 have left on it's ticket ?, unless I've missed an overhaul or extension somewhere, I thought it was almost at the end.

Be good to see her at the gala non the less though, Foremarkes a favourite of mine.
