Hello! I need to top up the some of the oils in the gearbox and final drive on Drewry Car RDB998901 and I'm struggling to trace current equivalents of the oils required.

It's fitted with a Drewry-Wilson R8 4 speed gearbox (air operated) and the oil specified in the 1950 Drewry Car manual that came to us from the RTC with the vehicle states that we should be using one of these:

    Shell CY1 (Winter) CY2 (Summer)
    Vacuum Mobiloil A
    Texaco Motor oil Thuban 80

The reverse and reduction Gearbox appears to be a Drewry item and the following "good quality mineral oils" are suggested:

    Shell Spirax C
    Vacuum Mobiloil C

Any suggestions of modern 'off the shelf' equivalents - or at least specifications for both/either of these would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Ian

Give Millers Oils a ring in Brighouse. They have an excellent technical team, and I buy all my "old" oil from them for my vintage bikes.

Likewise, Morris Lubricants have been very helpful to me in the past sourcing modern equivalents of oils listed by trade names in handbooks which are now all long gone!
