    Hi all

Perhaps some of you would be interested in seeing photographs of part of South Australia's rail network that has been out of service for around 30 years?
Disused railway stations in the Gilbert Valley.

There is also a very informative article on the South Australian tram museum and the tram network history.

Fascinating, thanks. Is the line still in use for freight or was it just closed and abandoned?

    Thanks :)
The line isn't used at all any more, like many of the old rural railway lines in SA
A number have been pulled up and replaced with walking/bike trails.

But the track is all still in situ on this one?

Yes I believe the entire track still remains on this line

Amazing after all that time. There is something fascinating about a disused overgrown line, very poignant.

Yes I was glad I made the trip, even though it took nearly two hours to get there because of roadworks.
The station architecture is quite unique I think.
There is an overview of the whole trip with more photos here.

Interesting shots - thanks for sharing -- where is this in relation to Adelaide .. I have a friend who lives in Heathfield in the Adelaide Hills , just trying to put into perspective .

Sorry, I posted a map link but for some reason I now cannot post without a moderator reviewing my posts. It wasn't a problem before :(

    Edit:Map link is here
Manoora is about 100 miles north of Adelaide, while Heathfield is around 20 miles SW.

For anyone interested, there is a second article about that Gilbert Valley area of South Australia with even more rail photos:
