    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know about an 8F which arrived at 103 berth in Southampton docks today. Is this another 8F which has come from Turkey and does anyone know where it's possible going to.

Sorry Ray I made a total mess of that post.

I was told today by someone that this loco is outward bound and possible going back to Turkey?

Could it be a reciprocal return visit for 45160 as a working engine ?

I'm surprised no-one has organised an expedition to recover the ones at the bottom of the Red Sea yet!

Definitely not 45160, she is booked down for a number of the Santa specials on the GWSR throughout December.

I was wondering how long it would take ...... ;) Mind you they were built for the same duty before Riddles penned the WD's.

    Lets be sensible.

If I have understood this correctly what is being described as an 8F has arrived, presumably by road, at Southampton Docks. Initial enquiries do not suggest any of the former BR six (48151, 48173, 48305, 48431, 48624, 48773) but I cannot confirm 100% that all are where we list them in 'Preserved Locomotives of British Rail' (15th edition) as of today. In addition the three former Turkish examples (45160, 45166, 45170) appear to be still at GWR, Barry & NNR respectively.

    Thus somewhat baffled at present!

If of course its a USATC S160 (also 2-8-0) then what about 3278 from Portland as a possibility?

Are we sure this isn't another 8f from Turkey? There was mention in Heritage Railway in an article that there was another one worth saving as a long term project, so could this be it? (The MoverRight article I believe).

If it does turn out that it is an arrival at the Docks by ship rather than lorry then this would probably be the answer. My understanding was that another Turkish 8F was to be imported. Does anyone have any more up to date information regarding this?

I didn't know there was another one to be saved. I had heard that one was being broken in turkey and the Tod Turkish 8f group were bringing parts back. But not a whole loco. Who knows. And were quite a long time from April 1st

Spares for 48518? Maybe a component recovery session in Turkey has netted a boiler and firebox, tender, wheels, pony truck, frames, cylinders, rods, cab and more. For easy transport they have all been put back together. Oh... Better preserve it as its an 8F!
