Not only that, Stephen, but the NYMR's daily service requires four locos throughout most of October. OK, one might be a diesel on occasion but not every day.

TV. Guy Martin - How Britain Worked Channel 4. 8pm Sunday features SVR
Guy Martin: Building Britain - Channel 4 - Info - Press

"In the first episode, Guy will help restore the most important icon of the Industrial Revolution and the machine that turned Britain into the first industrialised nation in the world - a steam locomotive. His lorry mechanic skills come in extremely useful as Guy has to work inside the very guts of the machine, but he also has to learn a new set of trades, from Victorian blacksmithing to experiencing the harsh manual labour of the notorious navvies, the people who actually built the railways. And Guy being Guy, once his 130 tonne loco is taken for its inaugural run, he can't resist using its furnace to cook the traditional 19th century train driver's meal - a bacon and egg sandwich, served on a coal shovel".

Interesting note in Steam Railway that there was a strong possibility of Met 1 being run in on the SVR follwing completion at the Flour Mill. Anyone got any more info on this?

7812 Erlestoke Manor - the loco is stopped for valve and cylinder rebore with new pistons & valve rings etc together with crosshead con rod & coupling rod remetalling. So far dismantling for measurement purposes has taken place & parts are being cleaned in preparation.
It is unlikely to see service now before the feb 2013 half term. None of this is unexpected given the mileage run over the last 5 in service.

The SVR Santa service requires 5 locos each day, possibly plus one for steam heating. It has 6 available for trains [1501, 2857, 5164, 34053, 42968, 43106] plus 4566 which could steam heat.

    All from SVRA forum

Further comment on the SVR pointing out that those in charge of Met 1 have asked for this to be a low profile visit in terms of publicity.

It has been reported on other forums that the 28 and the 15 are now both out off action for the santa period with a black 5 coming in on loan to cover the santa period.
I assume that both the westerns and the warship will have been drained down for the winter
