1501 will more than likely have been repaired today. It was found to have a valve head that had worked slightly loose and tearing the rings apart. All of which was being attended too today. 2857 is a bit more serious with a once in a lifetime failure of a copper steam pipe in the smokebox.
42968 is on her very last knockings now. Any serious failures wont be repaired and she will be stopped for her 10 yr. Having said that she had a whisping washout plug which was re-tapped and replaced on monday morning.

Surely 2857 will be a quick fix as from memory the copper pipes in the smoke box are only the ejector, blower and lubrication pipes which are all fairly quick fixes to replace, unless the problem is more serious such the internal blower/ ejector pipe inside the boiler?

All very well but you have forgotten the two main steam pipes from the regulator to the superheater header!

These are made of 4.25" OD thick wall copper pipe which is rather hard to find these days - not to mention the need to bend it into some rather interesting shapes well beyond the capability of your local plumber!

No doubt this will be fixed - but not quickly & no doubt other loco owners/operators have found/will find.

The copper ones shown in this photo, I guess. Quite sharp bends, aren't they?

The main steam pipes from header to cylinders are not made of copper they are either cast iron/ steel or made from steel pipe sections that have been bent/ welded together.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong

You are correct that the pipes from the header to the cylinders are steel (not cast iron). However, as 1472 points out the pipes to the header from the regulator box are copper.

I can confirm that it is indeed the main pipe from the regulator to super heater header which has failed. As has been pointed out previously in this thread, fabrication of a replacement is not the most straightforward of jobs but rest assured that everyone at Bh will be doing their utmost to get the Churchward freight coupe racing again.

Someone in the society must have been doing some serious mirror smashing recently...!

    Re 7714

SVR News reported the slide bars have not been true since it was put into traffic, and the pistons have worn the bore to one side. A rebore and possible re-lining would be required

Recently SVREngineering reported 7714 was having her right hand side cylinder bored & was on 2nd cut pic.twitter.com/jmqBZtOj.

SVR-Online Forum :: View topic - Thank You 2012 today says the overhaul of 7714 continues but detailed examination of one of the cylinder blocks has revealed that it is in poor condition, as assessment is now being made on whether to repair or replace.
