I see from Steam Dreams that Tornado is now rostered for this trip. A pretty good substitute given the climb out of Dover up to Shepherds Well with a ruling grade of about 1 in 130, steeper at the start.

Cant figure out what the Loading Gauge issue is with 70000, would have thought it would go anywhere that Tornado would...

It's probably that the support crew just couldn't stomach four trips in just over a week?

Surely on the back of the Steam-Punk fashion we could encourage some Steam 'Travellers'/'crusties' who live in support coaches...

Don't know if the one inch larger cylinder diameter on the Brit would be significant?

Isn't Britannia a little taller than Tornado as the latter was built to 13ft?

Yes and I gather that's the problem hence the switch. But I'm sure the Brit support folk will appreciate the break. So what's the chance of anything GW getting anywhere in the SE in the future.

The SD brochure had this trip stopping at Clapham Junction, according to their website that is no longer the case.
I cannot work out what route will it take to avoid CJ, or will it pass through without stopping?

Same route but "the computer said no" to a stop - i.e. no time to do it (when in practice I expect there is). Same issue for Purley with East Croydon substituted.

No time to call at Purley on a Sunday, but there is at East Croydon??!! Where's the human intervention that's obviously required here?

Does anyone have the timings for this one yet? Monsoon permitting I can think of a couple of good places to film from for this.

More platforms, more staff, more options with junctions and routing etc. probably. Plus damn near everything stops at East Croydon so stopping isn't likely to hold up something non-stopping behind it.

Nil, even in BR days they didn't fit with parts of the Southern Region having a smaller loading gauge than most, well before NR's current crusade to gradually get us down to Tube Train size, it's saying how bad it's got down there way that Standards & Bulleids don't fit some places.

I'd be suprised to see a GWR loco on Southern metals for any lengthy stretch apart from possibly one or two LSWR routes like Salisbury or possibly Southampton/Bournemouth/Weymouth.

Doesn't the stock belong at Eastleigh? If so then presumably everything goes back to London, Tornado stays in town and the stock goes down the SW main line.

I am going to give this one a miss, but I hope someone is going to film it on Rochester Railway bridge from the Canal Road area.

Good place to film, would be the park at Frinsbury hill Rochester (other side of river. The whole of the riverside area is cleared ready for re development, allowing unique panoramic views of the line, from Chatham, across the bridge toStrood.
