Apparently, this is because the generator in 35469 (the BSK) has failed. Not sure why they didn't just replace 35469 with 6310 (the noisy one) - maybe they needed the seating accommodation in the BSK for staff use.

I think I heard 35469 will be removed from this rake the next time it goes to Eastleigh so it can be repaired. That was 4/5 days ago I heard that, and I think the rake has returned to Eastleigh since then...

Does anyone know if there are any more genny cars at Eastleigh?

Nooooo ! 2 is enough on one train !
    :)

Today's trip was a bit like something out of Thomas the tank engine, start, stop, trundle, go in a circle, canter, water, wait, run and stop again. ( i mean i saw it 5 times chasing it by service train, without breaking a sweat between london and salisbury)

When I saw it come into view from platform 3 Woking (u know the really loong way away one), it took nearly 5 minutes to reach the station, and trotted past chuffing and puffing like a 9f ! The stock only added to that.

Speed aside I think that suites the clients well though I suspect, most looked to be the out for a Christmas day trip , not enthusiasts.

I hadn't really noticed the geny this morning, but this evening I'm sure a 37 would have been quieter. Anyway, my efforts from this evening:
    70000 Britannia - The Cathedrals Express - 17/12/12 (pm) - YouTube

Does anyone know why the very unusual pathing today i.e. down via Winchester to Southampton & back up to Salisbury, rather than the usual direct route via Andover, apart from adding an hour each way on to the tour?

My video from today, captured at Winchester, Mottisfont (x2 - including a doppler effect on the whistle!), Southampton Airport and Eastleigh.

This will probably be my last video for this year (apart from a best of video). Thanks to everyone for their help this morning, as ever.

My video is linked below. The second shot is a soundscape to start with as you hear 70000 power all the way up from Sherborne to Milbourne Port, before some brilliant driving from Wayne Thompson as the Brit came into view at Milbourne. The sound was simply astounding, every single chuff right from leaving Sherborne (over 3 miles away) could be heard.

Thanks for posting the vidoes. everyone. I was at Burcombe (Just out of Wilton). Beautiful blue sky, exhaust lifting nicely and not a whisper from the generator car. (I use film, so can't supply an image until my film is developed, by which time no one will want to see it anyway!) Not as noisy as Brits can be, but still well worth the effort. After photographing and watching the video clips of several recent WCRC-operated Railway Touring Company trips, it was good not to see a diesel on the back. I hope those on board enjoyed their day as much as I did

Thanks for posting that Mark and for going to the trouble of recording it, have recorded quite a few from there after dark, a great location.
Difficult climb at 1:80, especially with the bridge check and a damp night, superb bit of driving.

Thanks Chris, yes, sure is a great location,if a little muddy after all this rain! The driving was brilliant, not bad with load 13 which included two genny cars and a kitchen. Makes you wonder why Tangmere needed so much diesel assistance on Honiton with half the weight after a run at the bank on Saturday.

Great video James I love the shots at Mottisfont especially the side on shot at the crossing - Can you upload the rest of this? I'd love to watch the whole train crossing.
