Re: 34046 Braunton - Health check

IF the move does go ahead then it's going to be a busy few days for the support crew. Assuming Mr Riley and his team finish the snagging, and they usually do, then IF all goes well on Monday will she then set off south Tuesday?

I understand that the LE move and test run for Monday have been postponed.

So here's to 2013 then for Braunton to do something that's revenue earning on the network. Better late than never.

She may not be a "proper" Bulleid :) but really looking forward to getting a trip behind her. Upwey Bank unassisted would be nice.

I'm looking forward to seeing her arrive at Rowsley with the Peak Forester on April 14th

As 44871 has departed from the ELR to the SVR, and tomorrows steam diagrams are 80080 and TBA, any chance 34046 turning out on a running in trial?

Unlikely as the planned movement to Carnforth on Monday has been postponed whilst snagging is finished.

Why would he be under supervision if passed to drive?

And another picture has just appeared of her in Heywood station. Many congratulations to Mr Riley and his team. Will be a lovely addition to the mainline.

Mr Rileys update yesterday "Few 'running in' details to deal with tomorrow, then some serious work...if the ELR want her?" - I'm guessing this means that quite sensibly Mr Riley would like to work her on the ELR first before her mainline run.

Appears so. ELR web-site has 34046 working on Santa trains tomorrow and Friday.

Surely signing the route is part of the process to becoming passed out to drive along with proving traction knowledge, handling and rules?

How'd you fancy riding behind Braunton at the East Lancs tomorrow?
Jeremy Hosking’s ‘West Country’ No. 34046 Braunton is to work one of the East Lancashire Railway’s ‘Santa Special’ diagrams tomorrow and on Friday (December 20/21) – and you can be on board!
As part of the recommissioning process, following recent work by Ian Riley to prepare it for its main line return next year, the rebuilt Bulleid ‘Pacific’ will work the 9.30am, 11.10am, 12.50pm, 2.30pm and 4.10pm Bury to Rawtenstall ‘Santa’ trains, on which seats are available to the public.
These will be the first passenger trains worked by the locomotive since it was withdrawn from traffic at the West Somerset Railway in September 2011.

34046 Braunton to haul Santa Service this Thurs & Fri

As part of the re-commissioning programme for West Country Pacific 34046 Braunton, the loco will appear on the ELR Santa Special services on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st December. The use of the locomotive in passenger service will help prove the serviceability and reliability of the recently overhauled engine which is due to commence mainline charter operation early in the New Year.

Andy Morris, General Manager of the East Lancashire Railway said:

“We welcome the opportunity to operate the loco as part of our Santa programme and are working in cooperation with the owners and Riley & Son Engineering to re-introduce the loco back in to service. We look forward to other opportunities in the short to medium term to have the loco hauling trains on the ELR.”
