Unless you want to make a valid criticism in the media section, in which case the mods just ignore free speach, now stands back to be chucked of !!!!!!

Freedom, as has been said, necessarilly needs to include the freedom to take the consequences. As that particular freedom tends to be restricted to site owners then I think its entirely acceptable for them to use their own freedom to remove anything that they feel will damage them. If you don't like that: well, you're free to start your own site with which you are personally identified, and take the consequences of what you want to say there...

Nothing obviously untoward in recent posts (or even value in the last page ?), but bumped this statement as a reminder, before the latest news hits the thread.
News on 42859 needs to keep to reported (or supported) facts.

    Uh-oh... this doesn't sound promising...

I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst here. Should we take it that there is definite news, or is this from the latest HR, which I am not in a position to read.

Another take on this issue is to accept that the owner has subjected the loco to a slow and painful death over many years.

Perhaps it's time to let the scrapman put it out of it's misery..

An acquaintance enquired of the owner if it was for sale about a year ago, and the response was "no chance, we're going mainline with it", hmm.

From contact with the owner it would appear that the HR piece is a reasonably accurate statement of affairs . There is no new news at present .

Apologies probably a bad choice of words.
But in the main the message is the same.
this loco is a very tricky subject, and no one should say anything that can lead to being embroiled in a bad situation.
The "news" is this forum and its posters is being quoted elsewhere, and not necessarily in a truthful, representative or positive light of the original posters comments, contributions or intentions. (Aka twisting words or situations to suit a story).

hence the reminder to stick to facts (and the discussion of)

In that case kindly explain what kind of 'news' or 'truth' is contained in posting #285. Its contents are just plain nasty and demonstrate either a feeble grasp on the facts of the situation or just a pugnacious desire to put the loco owner down for no good reason. I have reported this posting in the normal way.

On the contrary: it still exists; it looks as if some paint has been applied to arrest further rust; the tender tank is probably life-expired, but so was 2765's. This forum has speculated, parted it out, scrapped it and given it up for dead. However, it has an owner, to whom I credit the will to protect his assets, contributors to this thread who would be prepared to support its continuing existance and work in the Heritage railway industry for it to do once it is operational. Restorability of any artefact depends upon the will to do it and the depth of pocket available, but if it goes, it goes for ever. If 2859 had been sent to another South Wales scrapyard it would have been razor blades 30 odd years ago. As it is...

A Happier New Year to 2859!!!

I think that the point of my comment has been missed - it's sad to see how little is now there. Yes, the tender tank etc are in need of replacement; no disputing that. It's the fact that certain vital parts are now NOT there that's sad. To comment further than that would, I think, be inviting trouble for both our site admin and the commentator him/herself...
