Not really relevant as the contract was not discussed and agreed until 2005!

Yep, seen that. It appears you need to be aged 3 or under to participate. I'm waiting for the detailed forensic report on the damage caused, the cost to rectify it and the number of years additional delay before she steams. This could be the final nail I fear.

Someone kicked "Scotsman"? Hope it didn't put any of the wheels out of line, crack the frames, or put the inside motion out of true.

I'm waiting for the press release ...

There has got to be a point where the railway magazines realize it's counter productive to keep kicking the NRM in their articles constantly, surely?

I mean, Steam Railway is complaining about not being able to photograph and or speak to the NRM head when they've spent two years constantly running the NRM down.

I don't condone the 4472 facebook group mentioned above, but there is a limit to the number of times any sane individual in the railway world can log onto the internet and see yet another round of STEAM RAILWAY SAYS THIS propagandizing and sensationalizing the whole affair.

The one thing about Bob Meanley's report that I found refreshing was that it pulled no punches, but it did so in the most objective manner possible. If all parties concerned could be more objective and look towards fulfilling a common goal - Scotsman steaming, for the benefit of everyone - then perhaps we just might get 4472 out of its rather large hole and into its capacity as a roving ambassador for Britain's foremost railway museum, and to an extent, the preservation movement as a whole, at last.

    Very, very well said!

To my mind, Wilcock and his cronies clearly have some deep-seated anti-NRM grudge, and it appears that no amount of rational arguement will dislodge it. I just hope their fevered rantings don't get taken seriously by the folks in The Works at York, whose sterling (sp?) efforts to get 4472 back into a condition fit for the mainline are (hopefully) much appreciated by the majority of the steam community.

    Cheers
    Adrian

Agreed... I have read every issue of Steam Railway (including for the 4 years before I was born), and I've got to say it seems like there are some huge grudges coming out at the moment which I haven't experienced before. As very much a lay-person here, I would much rather be reading an article investigating what may, or may not have taken place at Southall than yet another article by Wilcock sledging everything that happens at York.

Does anybody else feel that SR should be treading very carefully when printing articles criticising the repatriation of the A4s, having presumably made a tidy sum out of using them for their cover pictures at least twice last year?

Its amusing that they seem to be trying to claim an exclusive with regards to the arrival of the A4's when I understood that they were actually excluded from the arrival PR.

I would suggest of more worry to them is their reporting of the crab issues where some of the statements they make could have interesting legal implications if someone should choose to raise the issue.

Anyway back to 4472 although I will continue to consider any reporting with a pinch of salt until they do something of use like try and identify where the £2m+ has actually been paid to?

I take it you want Dave Wilcock to investigate this.

Lots of criticism of Steam Railway pictures on the front cover only make you pick it up not buy it, the way magazines make money is through sales and advertising its your choice.

I agree with the above sentiments - the preservation press, and SR/Wilcock in particular, have done both themselves and the preservation movement no favours with their seemingly almost non-stop harassment and vilification of 4472/the NRM/contractors/NRM staff. No wonder the NRM won't now open up to them. I note that we still haven't had any response from any of them, justifying their treatment of the NRM & assorted personnel.

The press are supposed to report the facts, not make them up to suit their agenda...
