    Ben, will the Cumbrian Conqueror be picking up at Crewe? Even if it doesn't I'll be phoning tomorrow to book, having been behind EoME and Princess Elizabeth, there's no way I'm going to miss this combination.
    There will of course be those who will say the combination is all wrong, but who cares, it's the sight, sound and experience that matters, although with the Duchess on the front I don't suppose we will hear her much from on board.

    No sign of the projected Gloucester - London special with 5043. I presume that pathing issues through Reading killed it off? Really disappointed about this if so, but I guess it can't be helped. I'm sure all of you at Tyseley pulled out the stops to try and make it happen.

    I have been told that due to the constuction of the front of a Duchess, they were never piloted when double headed. This may only be an urban myth but perhaps someone could confirm if this is fact or fiction..

    I read somewhere that a Duchess was not allowed to be lead engine when double heading although this did happen.
    There is plenty of photographic evidence of them being piloted.

    Thanks Alan, so somewhere someone may have got things a bit wrong, we shall see which takes the lead on the 15th June. I suppose the Duchess will just have to slog away with the extra load whatever. :tongue1:
