The new 2013 IOWSR timetable shows a Gala on the 5th and 6th of October marking the return to service of No 11 Newport and of Ivatt class 2 41298, plus at least one guest locomotive.

11 and 41298 are making great progress, there is a bit of rivalry going on between the two groups as to who makes the best progess. Not at all sure what the guest or guests will be but it would help if they were air brake fitted!

Will the E1 be in its W2 identity by then, very good news about 41298, i assume that she will keep its mainland identity and not be renumbered into the next iow number availible? if the 2mt tanks had been sent over, would they have kept their id do you think? or been given IoW or departmental numbers as it would have been right at the very end of steam .
are there any plans for the ivatts to retain duel braking capacity, even if the vacuum hoses are not fitted, because i can see quite a few possible requests should you ever allow it to visit railways on the mainland, its a pity that 32678 lost its IOW bunker because i would love to see you have her back for a gala and we enjoy 41298 for a couple of week ends, next year maybe? if 78 is still in ticket especially if we could re fit the extended bunker, repaint her into SR wartime black as W2 refit her name plates for the visit then afterwards we could always keep the bunker, and renumber her 2678 in the bulleid style.

That'll be the LNER B12 on the North Norfolk Railway then! Not sure it would fit the run-round loops though...

More seriously - how impressive is it that the IoWSR are going to get two locos newly outshopped next year, one of which has never run in preservation, plus make a major contribution to a third overhaul (the Ivatt 2-6-0 on the ESR). Not bad going for a railway that, on here and in the magazines at least, never makes much of a buzz but just seems to go about its business with quiet efficiency.

Yes the E1 will be W2 quite soon Martin. I have not heard of any plans to renumber 41298, I think it will stay as 41298.

I'm not sure how the air brake conversion is going to be arranged, as the loco steam brake requires the vacuum to control it on an LMS engine. The orignal plan to use BR class 2 tanks would have been more straight forward as they had independant steam brakes.

Another Terrier festival would be good for the future, especially with the E1 and the 02.

The B12 would be OK at Smallbrook but not at wootton, despite the headshunt being lengthened last year it would still be too short.

Which small Locos are air fitted other the the obvious ones, Terriers, E4. I must admit the Brighton Atlantic would look fantastic with our 4 Brighton bogies behind it!

Would prefer a home fleet only gala with all operational locos on passenger trains.

You'd have to expand at Wootton then. She's going to be a big beast!

Or you could follow the lead of nearly every model railway magazine I read and invite our SE&CR C class, on the grounds that practically every magazinbe review (and a few online) mistakenly lavished great praise on the intricate way that Bachman had applied the lining on the Westinghouse pump on the side of the boiler! So she must be airbraked then...

Gary, has 32678 ever been back to the island? no 3 wouldnt be any good to you , even though it has a westlinghouse brake its only for the loco brake and isnt dual braked, where as 78 is fully duel braked .

Although, in fairness, the latest Railway Modeller carries a correction...

Martin I must admit that I have no idea, I know that the two Bluebell terriers made it over in the early 2000s. I have an idea that a KESR terrier was due to come at the same time but was unable to make the trip.

Being an air braked line does set us apart from other lines, except for the some FYN locos the island was always air braked. I suppose with W24 and the first six coaches being air braked we have carried on the tradition.

Many years ago 1973 I think I had a footplate ride on the C, at the time it was paired with the dukedogs tender so was known as the Seadog!

Its a shame that its not airbraked it would look rather good with our three SECR bogie coaches, although unfortunatley only one is in traffic at the moment.

Good point! Not sure if a Yank would be wider than a Mickey mouse, although now you mention it I wouldn't be all that surprised.
