Ah, "pimp my shunter". We'll soon see a 240hp Drewry shunter with pram-handle spoiler, "go faster" yellow and black wasp stripes, alloy wheels, furry dice in the cab windows, Recaro seats and a sound system that puts out more watts than the engine itself. Put a scabby old BCK behind it and the diesel spotter yoof will lap it up at whichever railway is able to hire it in for a gala...

... not forgetting lowered suspension, under-valence wheel lighting (see "Tornado" kettle), and an alternative "livery".

Footplate crew to wear overhauls with the following on the front and back:

Excellent. Now, imagine the same effect with my original suggestion - pimping a Pacer with a Deltic engine. Cool s**t, dude! (or something ...)

No problem - just take a double Pacer, sling the Napier into one car, Recaro's in the other, and you've got the perfect HS2 shuttle railbus for the good folk of Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham who have been sidelined by the east fork route! Of course it could get a bit lively up front when propelling :bounce:

Now you're talking. Might need to tweak the braking system a tad, though. I can just see Victor applying for the driver's job.

But for a different type of sound appeal, how about a Merlin engine in the Pacer.

But would Victor be prepared to wear a flying helmet and goggles while he was driving?

I've found some secret Top Gear spy footage of a Napier-engined Pacer set under test!! :spy:

Clearly its powers of acceleration and deceleration are everything we would expect, blowing away Tornado in the staged drag race, and pulling at least 5G on arrival at the terminus. :jaw:

Gonna need full harness belts on those Recaro's I reckon?

What you missed was the earlier video of the Deltic arriving for the engine swap. The guy at the end of the platform is thought to be waiting to take the bogies for a Class 37 restoration project.

Notice also the replacement train service covering for the Pacer during its conversion and testing.

The key word here should actually be tonezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and for additional emphasis the words 'wid da gen' and anything ending in '-berry' (such as totallyuselessteenageidiotarmedwithathrashberry) should also be added

This thread has gone a bit quiet - must be teacher's half-term already.

I'm looking forward to the summary of the Class 60+, and the 70s (should be a scorcher).

Still working on the engineering drawings for the Deltic-powered Pacer, before putting in the Heritage Lottery Fund application. Anyone suggest a good test track? Dunstable? Sn******ch?

I was trying to research Ralph's description of diesels as "Ronnies". Maybe he meant 10000 and 10001 - which would be the Two Ronnies? And of course 10203 which upset the Spamcans of Nine Elms, becoming so badly Bulleid that it had to have an identity change, emerging years later as a class 40...

    10203 had a "nose job"?

... and it's goodnight from him.

I'm sure the banks on our Cauldon branch would be perfect. Mind you, you'd probably get all four wheels off on the yump at the summit. In which case suggest Virgin Galactic branding. Now where's that fictitious livery bloke when tha needs 'im?

HS2 as it could be ideal for the line. It would save a fortune in all that overhead copper stuff. Have you thought about fuel capacity perhaps a scoop and diesel troughs may be required.
