For a short period 6023 King Edward II, currently in service at the Great Central Railway, is to become 6015 King Richard III as part of the City of Leicester's celebrations following the discovery of the King's skeleton beneath a car park in the city. New nameplates are currently being fabricated.

With respect, neither the Didcot or 6023 websites mention the change and the website referred to above is from a journalist who does not quote any sources.
I think it would be better to wait and see on this!

Let's hope this one doesn't get buried under a car park for 500 years.

As 8P's all the Kings should of received blue for a period in the early 50's, I'd be surprised if one escaped the paintbrush given the Kings were high profile as opposed to a tank engine outstationed in some far flung place that wore GWR well into the 50's.

They should *have*? My understanding was the blue livery wasn't very long lived before the specification was changed to Brunswick green, so only a few engines received heavy overhauls that would have meant they were repainted. The WR wasn't keen on painting engines unnecessarily - there's the cost, plus they liked their independence, and were fans of green. I also asked if anyone had knowledge, not speculation.

My feeling is that 6015 is blue in that photograph as well, not because of the colour which could be green but because of the lining. The lining bands on the boiler are definitely white which matches with the blue rather than green which has the black boiler bands striped with orange.

Double chimney was fitted in 1955. Would have green livery then, surely.

Do you require assistance stowing your toys back aboard your pram ?, It's no wonder so many people have buggered off the site when you try and help someone and they have a moan about your reply.

Thanks - was it really too much to ask for a reply from someone with some historical knowledge or access to a reference work as opposed to speculation that seems extremely ill informed?

Oblivious to the fact you gave an needlessly rude reply I see, this isn't your private thread where you have a right to information you know, I tried to help you in good faith rather than deliberately mislead anyone, fully in the knowledge that someone who knew better may correct me later, but if not, at least there's something then, so I think I'm entitled to show my displeasure to such an uncalled for reply.

    Gentlemen...

Photo looks green to me (although obviously the double chimney twists my view before I look at the paintwork carefully).

Someone out there will have definitive lists of what received blue in the transition period. I have a vague inkling that all of the King's managed it.
