The intention was to have the ex Bamford box operational, at the same time we also managed to acquire a half barrier crossing from Steeton / Silsden in West Yorkshire. I believe a combination issues in relation to sighting and maintenance / operation of the barrier machines led to a change of plan

indeed, the sightlines were an issue as the box was sighted back to allow for the barrier machines, which over the intervening years -barrier machines and the associated systems have gone up in price considerably whereas a simple gated crossing has not,the signallers also liked the ground level cabin a lot more than having to walk up and down all the time, one can imagine if the full height cabin had come into use with say two train running the amount of walking back and forth the poor bobby would have had to do would be considerable, hence we built the lms style ground cabin as a replacement to the previous one when it became life expired.

There were various plans to bring the cabin int use but as the railway was still expanding those plans either kept taking a back burner or things relevant to them would change and so the plan had to wait, hence in the end we used the current two crossing cabins at Darley and Church for the two train running as it made life a lot easier.

I also remember there was after issues with the sightlines up the road and I believe the trees in the whitworth park are protected? so itd be easier to move the cabin than do anything with the trees, plus the cabin needs to be moved so ben can get the footbridge back in place as well :)

if youre on facebook there is a "peak rail signalling page" my colleague Ian set up which has a picture on it of the Bamford Cabin being moved from Bamford to PR.

unashamed blog now-if youre interested in how the railway signalling came about and all the volunteers hard work, there is a book about it on blurb.co.uk "peak rail, thirty years of signalling", link is

The Blazing Saddles event looks interesting, pleasantly surprised by the number of events at Peak Rail this year

Great year ahead by the look of it..

I can't wait to see you start on the Bamford Box relocation. As far as I'm concerned, that will 'signal' the start of the Rowsley Village extension project. LOL..

The Peak Forester on 14 April is now almost sold out, just some premier dining seats left. Hope it runs more smoothly than last year to give folk more time at Rowsley.

What is the Rowsley Village Extension - obviously an extension to Rowsley. Is this something that will be achieved in a relatively short timescale? Will there be a run round at Rowsley (Grouse and Claret) or is it a case of change trains at Rowsley South and single track to the Grouse and Claret?

A gala with 4 austerities is, eh, interesting.

Additional to the above, the Heritage Shunters Trust website tells us "The Heritage Shunters Trust will be holding two shunter galas in 2013.". Any ideas when?

There was a link on here somewhere to the planning application by Peak Cycleways, which had a detailed plan, but that application has now lapsed, I'm not sure why. Basically there will be a run round, and a platform near the garage at Rowsley, when is anyone's guess :)

Well it's hoped to have five Austerities running, namely Warrington/68013, Sapper, Lord Phil, Wilbert, and Mech. Navvies, plus Swiftsure placed on the turntable - the latter has an interesting legend on the bunker - 'Return to Antwerp Docks'.

no its a hired in beast as it also does points and crossings due to the tamper tines being independantly moveable
