Sadly there are seemingly always a load when this train runs, possibly because the fences aren't too good, although sadly it's because a lot of folk round this area don't know any better. One guy even trespassed at Copy Pit when there were all those locations available.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Last point - agreed. But a bit of common sense about when trespass is dealt with because it constitutes a potentially serious issue would be great, although unlikely for all the rulebook issues we live with nowadays. That said, yesterday was a great day. Competent locos driven well over a varied and interesting route.

If that is the case, and I'm not entirely sure I have taken the photo down so as not to cause WCRC any embarrassment.

I can understand your situation.....that spot is the site of the old Elland station and it is poorly marked as to whether you were tresspassing or not. No comment about tresspassing was made about your other shot going east some time ago?.............

This was from a colleague who was out at the weekend, shocking stuff and I'm glad others have noted other incidents. Anyway, location is Silkstone Common.

    Words cannot describe this stupidity.

I trust your friend advised the selfish errant people to shift back off the track.

Network Rail would love to find a reason to stop all charters and all it will take is for someone to be hurt for that to come to pass. Enough occasions of halting schedule services as was the case on this occassion will have those in power seriously thinking.

    Andy

    PS

Comments along the lines (no pun intended) of "its difficult to know where the fence should be" do not help at all

That is an accurate summing up, I was on the train and loco work was very good. The comments about trespass are very accurate also. I saw the people in the Silkstone photo, there were a lot of others trespassing on the line to Penistone, often standing on the edge of the ballast. Some appeared from behind lineside vegetation just as the train approached.

Yes, 6th page of the document, but it's page 47 in the original magazine. Nice pic of Leander and the Black 5, I thought, until I tried to access the spot. I then noticed the photographer...

Nice try but quite possible without trespassing.

My video of a fine performance from the Black Fives yesterday. Filmed at 5 locations including the ascent of Miles Platting, crossing Penistone viaduct and powering through Copy Pit

    Excellent video Matt.

You can also clearly see the tresspasser's in question at Copy Pit if you pause the video at 7mins 35sec. 3 people stood next to the signal with their backs to oncoming trains. Also you can tell its a tresspass as they are stood beyond the location cabinet's.
This is stupidity at its best and very mindless putting themselves in danger as well as creating delay on the railway to trains having to be stopped and cautioned. Delays cost money and also can have a knock on effect for the rest of the rail network. This can easily get steam banned on the network and has certainly been talked about within the industry. Also don't forget that modern trains are now fitted with forward facing cameras to record such things as tresspass, etc. Please think what you are doing and were you are stood when photographing and videoing the trains.
And before anyone asks Yes I do work in the rail industry and also the railways is my hobby.

@ holmbridge - I believe so, but how many times have people on here have tried and got a mouthful of abuse back?! I for one have and have only managed a success rate of one years ago after I had a go at a group of youngsters down at cookham threatening to call the btp worked. Anyway I'm not passing the buck, far from it,but this does happen with diesel charters as well. Makes me wonder on the reasons behind this so called charter tax on delays going around the houses from network rail? Hidden agenda to compensate incidents like this? Who knows,

Like I said to people in my office, I can't think of one charter I've been on where I've not seen some form of trespass.

Anyway, I'll leave it there for now as I've taken it far off topic.

I think you will find that they are at a foot crossing between Dean farm bridge and the main road bridge on the climb to the summit at Copy Pit.

Presume this is the one. It's visible quite clearly in a number of videos.
