It's just buseng's usual sunny outlook and optimism showing through once again. If you're ever feeling too cheerful and want to get an attack of the glooms, just search buseng's posting history and that'll do it.

Anyway, back in the non-suicidal world, the sun was just breaking through as EoME powered away at Beaconsfield:

Video is uploading and I'll post it in about half an hour.

Yep but only.... Only ... Only just by some good enginemanship in my opinion approaching the red at west Ruislip, the next signal down in the distant was green but the red wouldn't clear. Must of been seconds away from braking to a stand, creeping up being the key word. Other than that and a couple of other minor things I noticed its been a Stonking run

I saw her trundle through Beaconsfield pretty much on time but with a yellow which only turned green as it passed due to preceding "all stations" which was a couple of minutes down. Being 7 late into Marylebone suggest that it was a crawl all the way from Beaconsfield into London.

It really has warmed up and we must take the fire risk seriously - Network Rail certainly will be wondering what to do.

I hope to see her come back at High Wycombe but will keep an eye on the forum to see if a smelly is coupled inside the Castle!

Am at Princes Risborough and just heard a station announcement that a southbound train is running 25 minutes late due to lineside fires.

Yes we were non stop although the temporary signal failure at West Ruislip almost scuppered that. Ray Churchill 'walked' the train through the station till the signal cleared. Not the easiest of paths with other services only just in front....and not on time either it would seem. That said, when we could, we flew and the hill climbing was impressive with 330 tons behind the (first) tender. Climbing out of Leamington, we had wound up to 69 by Fenny Compton and not a lot less over Saunderton. Running time to Gerrards Cross (before all the signal nonsense) was about as schedule and that included the checks at Hatton, Leamington and Aynho. The Earl is a great engine and a credit to VT and their folk.

Good grief, no. Seeing it in "real time" is more than enough, without reading it all again. ;)

Nobody's forcing you to read them, I just live in the real world as I said. I am entitled to my opinions as much as anyone else without being subject to criticism.

Unfortunately, 47245 is now leading 5043, with 33207 on the back. Passed Castle Bar Park 15:49.

Two fire engines in attendance at Somerton Road near Ardley, a few miles north west of Bicester around 12pm today, quite a large (50-100 yards long) section of burnt embankment.

Oh dear. :frown: Who would have forseen lineside fires today?

The NationalRail twitter account (you don't need to be a twitter user to see it) gives an idea of the chaos caused: https://twitter.com/NRE_Chiltern Can't blame the decision to diesel haul on the return.

Aint bloody fair is it ?, 12 months of miserable cold and wetness and it only takes 30 seconds of dry weather and we get frigging lineside fires, I hate this country and it's utterly useless climate sometimes, just hope it improves by May when I have my two steam tours with VT booked.

So can anyone confirm it's definitely diesel hauled (as in diesel on front) for the return?

I assume this is really the only sensible option, seeing as there's the need to keep 5043 coupled to the water carrier. A shame, as I was hoping to see this this evening (and the weather is ideal here in the Chilterns).

We always get lineside fires at this time of year lots of dead vegetation around and because its been so cold no new growth coming through also no rain in the south for the last fortnight dont panic more unsettled conditions are predicted from Monday which should solve the problem.
