Looks like one tailor made for chasing as it has the water stop at Hinksey and then festers for an hour at Didcot with the result being just over 2 hours from Oxford to Reading West Jn

Looks like at least two bands of rain coming through during the week so should be ok for steam haulage I'd of thought, panic over.

It's a revolutionary new concept the met office are experimenting with ;)

Serious though the second lot from about late Thursday onwards looks quite heavy and widespread at this stage.

Good news (if you can call it that)! It is currently raining in Salisbury (well heavy drizzle anyway).

As I'm on duty at this fair city on Saturday I hope to be around to see this one.

Be careful wishing for rain! While no one wants to see lineside fires break out as they did last Saturday, people were wishing for rain in March last year. Their requests were granted - it hardly seemed to stop for the rest of the year.

All set for tomorrow? Does anyone know if there'll be a DL on the back this week? We've had a fair bit of rain during the past few days and there's more forecast tomorrow, but I'm not sure whether it has been enough to damp everything down enough. I shall hope for the best but won't be surprised if 5043 has company.

According to the Special Notice, there is no diesel on this service. Saying that though, it also states that West Coast's watercarrier is in the consist but apparently that is no longer the case.

Yesterday saw sporadic rain showers throughout the area so hopefully the risk of fire is slim and therefore the run should be diesel free.

Looking forward to seeing this one arrive today.

Any actual info yet though? Any sign of a DL?

Sounds like the water carrier they used last week has a nasty wheel flat. It can be heard in this video in the last two shots: The Marylebone Flyer with 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe - 6th April 2013 - YouTube

I'm not sure the water carrier was ever down to do this run, certainly I don't recall seeing it's mention in the write up.

Woulden't make much difference if it was anyway with the pathing stop to get through the Reading traffic jam.

It was definitely on the paperwork received here but that is now by the way.

I hope everyone has brought their brollies! The weather has turned somewhat wet in Salisbury and it is set to remain for the rest of the day.

If the train is to live-up to its title, they'd better start relaying the Devizes branch quickly!

Going well and 3 minutes early at Worting Jct. 9 on and no DL or water carrier. Rain started as we got back into the car! Cant remember the last time I foted a GWR engine there. Possibly 1962!
