The coaches that have moved from the NNR to the EOR are CL 43034, BS 43359 and S 46147. These were surplus to our requirements as poor(er) condition duplicates in our collection. Following the generous donation earlier this year of a partially restored SLO and unrestored S from the Heritage Transport Group formerly based at the Churnet Railway we needed to dispose of the unwanted vehicles. We were already in discussions with the EOR prior to the Churnet coaches being offered and as a result the EOR have now received the foundations of an appropriate heritage set that will eventually fit in well on their branch. All of these will require an awful lot of money and major rebuilds before they will be in a fit state to carry passengers again. In return the EOR have provided the NNR with a Mk1 TSO bodyshell of 3984 which it is now stored, but it is probable that it will eventually be rebuilt into a dining car for our 'North Norfolkman' dining train. This leaves the NNR with five suburbans; BS 43357 (in service), SLO 48001 (under restoration at Weybourne), CL 43041 (Stored) and S 46139 (Stored) for the 'Suburban 4' project, and SLO 48004 (Stored) as a potential 5th vehicle should it be decided in future to enlarge the set.

I hear via the latest addition of Joint Line that restoration of SLO 48001 at Weybourne has been progressing well for some time, with much work on the interior fittings and woodwork undertaken.

It's great news that no time has been wasted in starting the Suburban 4 restoration project. Usually new arrivals at railways have to wait some time before their turn for restoration! Well done guys...

    Cheers

It probably won't be in use, all the cushions are still being reupholstered. This is now the only coach on the railway with 2 working toilets!!

The Brake is going to be done next, then finally the all 3rd.

Is it part of some sort of refreshed branch line set? A very interesting development if so. Unfortunately (for me) I have visited Llangollen many times over the last few years but have yet to see a suburban running during my visits. I was told they tended to appear at steam galas and charters (neither of which I've attended) however, so that's probably where I've been going wrong!

Well done to those involved, it looks good judging from the image.

They always have been there as a set for galas and charters, and for off peak services. They were removed from traffic last year, due to them becoming dangerous for public use.

When they are fully fit and safe, I'd say they will be in use a lot more.
