As someone who does steam exclusively,I just cannot resist visiting for D4.
Over 50 years ago I did a Black 5 from St.Pancras to Bedford and at the head of my return train was D1 my first ever Peak.

A report on WRgen has stated that the D4 is not visiting now.

    Correct...replacement just about sorted.......

    Organisers statement:
"with regret that indeed D4 has now been withdrawn from the visiting line up due to the discovery of electrical problems on the loco. This problem only raised its head over the weekend during tests runs on the MRC.With great dissapointment The Peak Locomotive Group were given no option but to withdrw D4,especially after all the work their group members had put in to get the loco ready time for our event.

The Swanage Railway would like to thank the PLC for their efforts in trying to supply, and will of course welcome D4 and its owners to Swanage once it is and running again."

'With regret, due to electrical problems with Class 44,D4 'Great Gable',owners the Peak Locomotive Group have been forced to withdraw D4 from this years visiting line up.This comes as a great disappointment to the Peak Locomotive Group who have spent several months ensuring D4 would be ready for forthcoming diesel gala at Swanage on Friday 10th to Sunday 12th May.

As a result, courtesy of Micheal Owen / The Class 20 Locomotives Limited,20142 will now replace D4 in the visiting line up.

As a result of these changes, the evening services have been altered as below.....

    Friday:
    Wessex Belle 20142 + 20189 & 227.
    "Beerex" 33108

    Saturday:
    Wessex Belle 33111.
    "Beerex" 37521

The Swanage Railway would like to thank the Peak Locomotive Group for the efforts in getting D4 ready for our gala, and the Class 20 Locomotives Limited for assisting us at such short notice.'

Just printed and ready to plan my yearly pilgrimage to the Purbecks.

Can you confirm that the VEP is running on the whole weekend as the timetable doesn't indicate when it is running? Do I presume that it is when the 33/1 is operating solo?

The VEP is running all weekend, and will be the set on all Swanage platform 1 arrivals and departures.

Its been posted on the SE Gen Yahoo group that the three 20's will haul the Vep from Clapham to Swanage having run light from West Ruislip. Should make for an interesting convoy!

20's passed through Addlestone Junction right time but without the Vep which is still at Clapham. Reports say that one of the shoe gear came off preventing it from being moved. However, elsewhere it is being mentioned that people are working to remedy the situation and it may still be moved tomorrow. All is not lost just yet!

This is 100% correct apart from the "may still be moved tomorrow".
    It WILL be moved tomorrow

Many thanks Steve, I'd checked the Vep's twitter page and that said it would be taking place too. Good to see what can be done when things go wrong at the last minute, thanks to all involved.
