Does anyone know what loco is likely to haul the easterling. the on-going problems with oliver cromwell make it unlikely to be ready in time with the trip being only 2 weeks away.

From the latest CGR newsletter:- Shed News
Oliver Cromwell now has all the running plates in place, and the valve linkages on the right fitted. The right piston valve and shaft were ready to fit on Wednesday, and painting was starting. Won't be long now before trials on the GC!

Looks like it will be a last moment job.

Ah - misunderstood what you were getting at. Sorry. Thought you were implying that she only just made it on the trip last week, which is certainly not the case as she went v well. Sadly Jack, Tangmere is all that there is down south at present that can go into East Anglia.

I just looked on uksteaminfo http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t13/t0608a.htm , it says that tangmere is being used on saturday 8th june, the day before the easterling trip, is'nt that a bit much for the loco and support crew.

Loco and Crew are more than able to work one day per week, remember "The Great Tangmere" tour of Britian in 2009.

good point, we'll just have to wait and see if oliver cromwell is ready in time....
70000 britannia would make a good replacement, it was used on the train in 2011 when it was black

    From this weeks GCR newsletter:-

    Shed News
Oliver Cromwell had an initial shakedown outing last weekend, where it picked up a steam
leak in the right cylinder area. This required the valve to be removed so it could be cured
on Monday, with luck it will have another outing at the weekend, although possibly not on a
    service train. We shall see!

34067 looked to be going fine today, though it was a bit of a slow trundle behind the service train, and a wait in the loop at Shenfield.

Pity about the loadings, several coaches were empty at Colchester, inc 1st class, don't know how many we're still expecting to board later.
Either way its nice watching steam on the GE.

Filmed Tangmere and The Easterling at Bethnal Green. Interesting in a number of ways especially as the train swung from the Down Main to the Down relief. The film is at

Pity, driver did say at Colchester everything was going fine, but there was a lot of slipping on departure.

47245 followed LE from Liverpool st immediately behind at Stratford, but the train had lost its tail by Shenfield, assume its at Ilford hidden somewhere
According to Rtt .. It's not left Norwich, so prognosis would supported.

Further to Bill's post, reports are true. I am at Reedham, waiting to film, and have just been told that the run to Lowestoft has been cancelled and the train will head straight back to London.
