Evening of Tuesday 18th June - No: 5029 "Nunney Castle"
Loaded Passenger Trial Run with a Fish & Chip Supper!
Vintage Trains, in conjunction with Locomotive Services Group & the 5029 Support Crew, would like to invite you aboard a loaded passenger trial run on the evening of Tuesday 18th June, 2013.
No: 5029 "Nunney Castle", fresh from its extensive overhaul will venture onto Network Rail metals in order to verify the loco at speed on the mainline. This will be the first opportunity for fare-paying passengers to ride behind 5029 since the overhaul.

The full newsletter, including booking info, can be found here: (cut and paste might be best here!)
PS - we are trialing our new online booking system on this one also, so be kind to it!

    Ben,
I see that during the overhaul, a superfluous ‘E’ has been removed from the loco nameplates, presumably as a weight-saving measure. One has to question the wisdom of this move particularly given the slang usage of ‘nunny’ (revealed by a Google search).

There is no other explanation than I made an eerrrror. Sorry all!

I sent an email the other day asking for a trial run of 7029 not 5029 - that raised an eyebrow or 3!

Well, the residents of Frome will have a view about that, perhaps.

Guessing as this will be nunney's first train, who will be partnering Kinlet Hall a few days before on the 15th for the Plymouth trip?

We will depart from our own Tyseley Warwick Road station shortly before 6pm, setting off for our final passenger pickup at Coleshill Parkway

Maybe this is a religious trip and following Nuny Castle will be Vicars Hall.

Yes- it will be interesting to see what turns up. A loco is also needed for the outward leg of the "Swanage Belle" the previous Thursday, and for the following day's "Royal Duchy". Still, great that Nunney will be back. With 46115 back in action, hopefully soon followed by both "Brits" and 34046, June is looking much better on the main line loco availability front.

or doesn't . A4's are all heading up the ECML , 46233/5043 up the WCML .

grapevine suggests 15th will be postponed / cancelled and 16th Royal Duchy will run with interesting motive power

Personaly I hope it's not cancelled having just forked out to get to Bristol from Maidenhead. Don't get me wrong, you pay for an element of risk on these tour's and I should be refunded by FGW, but it'll be a shame as I was looking forward to being behind this pair as I've only done it on the MHR and not mainline

Ben from VT, in the Cumbrian Conqueror thread, posted this:
"Postponed" is better than "cancelled", anyway.

But you have said it at least 2 places, Ben, including the Nunney Castle thread, and you wouldn't be trying to poach passengers from a rival's train that you knew was still running, would you? ;-)

Colleague at work who is a passenger on the Devonian has had phone call confirming the Devonian will not happen on the 15th June . Cancelled / postponed to when is a moot point

Royal Duchy will be shortened set by one coach and a black 4-6-0 at the head . Which one I do not know

Ben - Postponed is indeed better, just hope it'll be the same pair.

Sidmouth - Interesting, I haven't recieved a phone call yet or an e-mail from RTC yet, I assume I'll be getting one today.

Sometimes I do wish I lived closure to Brum....

The colleague phoned them up to find out what was going on , given the news of the loaded run on the 18th and the obvious situation that this precluded 5029 from the 15th tour . He's also booked on the 16th and has a seat in the carriage that is to be removed so all in all he's not having a very good weekend !

Nope. I would not try to ~lure~ passengers off a viable tour.

HOWEVER, a tour that maybe postponed.... In the knowledge that some good people might be bored and hanging around Brum looking for a double-headed train involving 2 Castles (46233 is just an overgrown Castle isn't it? ~ as I duck behind the desk~lol).... Any and all passengers are welcome to come with us. And we will not even charge a "defectors-penalty"!
