    And just for good measure, we stopped at the new station on the way out, just so we could say that we were the first Steam loco to stop there!

    It is part of the GSM-R Radio equipment, with the antenna on top. Very good system, but doesn't sit too well on steam engines.

    Mostly in/under the tender. It also depends on how forceful the loco owner is in not allowing an awful carbunkle to be stuck on top of the tender. As far as I am aware there is no GSMR kit on the loco.
