Mid Hants have stated on their web site that they have suspended steam services until at least 26th July after discussions with the local fire department.

Can't say I blame them at all. Steep grades and a lot of crops and dense vegetation normally close to the track in places.

Mate of mine is on NVR footplate duty on Saturday and as of this morning instructions to steam crews were to keep dampers closed to minimise risk. Seems the situation has changed again.

No surprise. Our lunchtime news in the SE mentioned grass fires breaking out now. Presumably even without a steam loco passing by!

Could arcing caused by EMUs be the culprit?

Stone the crows mate, not only have the bloody Aussies taken 7 wickets today, but it sounds like they've brought some of their fire breathing birds with them.

If they were bringing birds they could at least have brought those from the Fosters adverts.

PS. No, it was a roadside fire.

That's in Snowdonia, where I am told, there was once a severe drought. A whole day with no rain!

Some of which was careless batting and luck.
Still, the Aussies still have to bat...

The thread title should be amended again, perhaps List of steam operations affected by fire risk.

Looking on BBC weather web site this morning for Hampshire. Rain is now being forecast for middle of his coming week.

NVR currently has a partial ban. Steam between Wansford and Yarwell, diesel between Wansford and Peterborough.
