Are MCR getting contractors in to do this work, or are the CVR volunteers doing it?

Does this mean they're relaying all the track right back to Stoke? I can't see the point otherwise.

Surely the approach is to tackle that which needs attention most first, then replace the next most worn out, then the next, and so on and so forth.

I'm sure that in the fullness of time the whole line will be relaid, but presumably what they need to do now is fix it to first allow revenue-earning trains to run, then once a turnover is established, carry out the rest of the maintenance.

I would have thought the most pressing issue would be to try and fight through the tree infested undergrowth/landslip between Endon and Stoke or revenue earning freight trains are going nowhere near Cauldon, brand new track on that section or not.

The message on the CVR website said, "There will also shortly be some interesting new announcements to be made by MCR about the development of their network so please look out for these over the next few weeks." We'll have to wait and see what they are. Might be time to start cooking the humble pie and dishing out the cutlery!

Really hope so. I have been a local enthusiast for over 40 years and have lived close to the line. Would be fantastic to see it reopened again but looking at the condition of the Endon to Stoke stretch it will take some serious money to get into a fit state suitable for freight companies to allow their expensive kit over it. I wonder have contracts been signed with Lafarge in order for MCR to approach the bank for the necessary funding........

Looking forward to seeing the work starting. With the limited access to the Cauldon line by road does it look like it will be rail mounted equipment working the line westwards and new track brought in by rail or will we have everything brought in by rail?

Now back up with a 'couple' of posts removed.. Sorry if there are one or two that did not need to go and have been chopped, but since over 70 have been removed some may have got snipped when they did not really need it.
Lets get back to the normal discussion and info on the CVR/MCR.

Just a reminder that there will be trains running up the Cauldon line this weekend. The engine will be the N7 with a class 33 on the tail. It will be going as far as Bridge 39/1 which is where the branch line to Waterhouses ran and will be restored at a point of time in the future. There will not be many more running this far up the line as work is to start this week on installing a loop at Ipstones this week, so make the most of what we have got now. We are looking forward to seeing more developements in the near future and more joint projects to keep the Pway busy.

Thanks for that. It will be interesting to see how MCR go about replacing the railway to Cauldon. Presumably it will be relaid with the possibility of an extension to Waterhouses in mind. (?)
