I know it's very hard to judge, but it seems to me from the soundtracks of today's videos (thanks chaps - great news service. In HD, too!), 61994 was doing a good share of the work at Hoghton and Nappa on the way out, and at Waitby and Whalley on the return, but not around Horton / Selside. How did it appear to those of you who were following the train today?

Don't think the 47 was doing much (if anything) in my first clip at Pleasington or Nappa; but there's no doubt the Marquess was being pushed along at Horton

In my opinion, and it's only a view, the K4 is one of the more tricky locomotives to operate. The fire has to be just right, it can die on you quickly and you can run out of steam quickly, plus...and others will disagree....it can struggle with big trains for the earlier reasons. So I wouldn't assume that everything that happened on the Fellsman was necessarily fire risk related.

47580 was definitely working fairly hard along with 61994 passing Settle

Is that likely to be for the Waverley 28th?

Don't know that, not going to speculate.

45231 is rostered for the Fellsman on Wed 31/7. The diesel should be on the back, not inside.

Both myself, a friend and his Grandson have paid out a considerable sum of money to be in the WR Directors coach for this trip and I sincerely hope I we will not be observing an oil burner up to Carlisle!!!!

Well, if you do, and that may be beyond the control of the TOC, then there should be no debate about you getting a reimbursement of the extra cost. Can't think of anything worse, to be honest, even if the pain is only for half the journey.

There are rumours, and I repeat only rumours, that the Fellsman may run tomorrow with diesel haulage, I hope someone can categorically state that this is wrong.

Well, if true then that solves the 'view out of the back problem' but at quite a cost.

Oh dear. That suggests there's something wrong with 45231. What other serviceable locos are available at Carnforth? I wonder if a support crew can be scambled for 61994? Let's hope the rumours are wrong.

61994 was not due to return to Carnforth until 00:36 however according to RTT this is last leg of Tuesday's trip is cancelled due to an "uninvestigated delay". More encouraging, YouTube has video posted of the train making good speed through Lancaster with The Marquess whistling fit to raise the dead. So the train could have taken an earlier path but would it leave enough time to turn the K4 round assuming support crew to be available and the locomotive returning home with little in the way of matters to attend to?

Just hope that it is another rumour without foundation. Diesels and the dry conditions are more than enough to put up with.

Couple of minutes late off Lancaster. 47 did very little until some distance from station then you could hear it being opened up a little.
