Just down the platform from you Ron! A famous locomotive drifts past the condemned station building and footbridge at Fleet but causes little interest amongst the waiting passengers.

Completely understand there was always going to be a diesel on the back of this one,my query was why the "pushing" on full power when there was no apparent need for it. I have suffered the odd trip with a box on the back where it just "took it's weight" and that wasnt too bad, but when the box is doing more work than the steam loco its pretty annoying!

But does anyone know the agreements between the Drivers on board? I think not and maybe those in charge (ie the drivers) have been informed that the diesel assits to get the train up to a certain speed and then 70013 takes over as has happened before.

Once again outside influences maybe calling the shots still here guys so a bit of common sense or railway logic is required.

Filmed at Micheldever. Ok its a down grade, but no sign of effort from 70013

Thanks Phil. Not much doubt about the diesel doing a lot of work there! Neither does the Brit sound like a steam loco taking a ten car train up a 1/91 grade.

So it looks like significant diesel assistance may well still be the order of the day. At least on some routes and at some locations.

Phil's nice video is the only one I've seen so far where Ollie is doing any work. Micheldever is usually a good spot but even that looked 'dull' today, I almost went but got held up at work, will prob stay on tonight to catch her through Andover where I hope she actually does something!

So why if it's downhill would you expect 70013 to be going flat out??

There probably is a small amount in the steam chest but nothing to cause any chuff so to speak.

Here's another clip of 70013 from a couple if years ago making no effort what so ever either, looks pretty much identical to me....?

I think there is a difference between, "no sign of effort" and "going flat out".

Todays run look like it was just a little less than 60 mph, but I don't have coach lengths.

And unless there was a check not far away that is rather on the slow side at that location. But possibly still close to keeping time, so no problem.

Updated. From RTT it looks like it was slowing to go in the loop at Weston Box, (site of). Which would explain it's leisurely pace through Micheldever. That looping made it 20 late passing Winchester, but still right time at Southampton. So I could guess that whatever was due to pass it later was given the chance to pass it earlier!

I think my best at Micheldever, in that direction and starting from Basingstoke, was with 35005 on a ten car train. 86mph. 15th May 1965.

No sign in RTT that Ollie went to Yeovil to turn, so unlikely she's on the front, so where is she? Left at Weymouth? Hitched on the back all the way back to to London?

I wonder if RTT is simply updating the wrong info, as both links have the same head code - have seen it happen just once before. I guess I'm sitting here until I know whether to stay in Andover or go to Micheldever, don't you just love technology

I understand that Cromwell has failed and will be taken to Yeovil with s/c.

As has already been mentioned, it appears that the train has been retimed to run via Winchester. <BJ>

Thanks for that info. Means I can save some petrol rather than run down to Basingstoke tonight.

Assuming the problem is locally fixable it does mean that Ollie will be in place for next weeks run.
