STEAM BAN ON NVR

    On the bbc tv local news tonight they said that NVR has had to stop steam locos running because a field of standing corn next to the railway was set alight yesterday.

    It's quite amazing how much damage can be done to crops in a very short period of time, understandable that operators have to exercise caution when they decide it's necessary.

    Noticed a hay stack burned down on the MHR yesterday too.. And lots of scarring on the trackside.

    No signs of fire damage on the NNR this week, or GCR 2 weeks ago.

    Not so, if you are talking about the one furthest away from the A31 at Wanders Curve, this had nothing to do with the MHR.

    How badly was the MHR hit by the steam ban & reduced service, or have punters turned up anyway. Loosing a chunk of peak season business would probably hit any railway hard

    Place was heaving with a 3 train service on Wednesday... standing room only on one train I was on.
    not bad for a mid-week... but then Thomas had a bit to do with it.
