What's currently serviceable on the IoW? Want to get across for one of the final days of midweek two-train service in early September, don't mind one Austerity if there's something else on the second set, but a double Austerity day might be a bit off-putting.

(Sorry, I'm normally very open-minded with traction, but spent so many visits to the KESR in the 1980s being disappointed to have an Austerity and don't seem to have shaken off my 'oh it's only an Austerity' instinct even two decades later. That said, Lord Phil was stunning at Peak Rail on Thursday when lifting seven coaches and a Peak out of Rowsley and on the final bit into Matlock!)

The currently serviceable engines are W8 Freshwater, W24 Calbourne and Austerities 192 & 198. The next to enter service will be either 41298 or W11 Newport both are at an advanced state.

So both W8 & W24 will be working during the August Bank Holiday Steam Show, our biggest event of the summer. 'Freshwater' will be on the 4-wheeler set and 'Calbourne' on the bogie set, which is currently all Brighton stock and includes LBSCR 3rd 2403 which entered traffic this month.

Link to details below, which includes the WTT for the weekend.

Thanks for all the answers. Seagull, my weekends are full of either work or galas of some kind till the end of October now, but I'll be keeping an eye on the weekday roster in Sept in the hope of getting over from Devon for a first ever ride behind the Norwegian, and then I'll manage to get a morning at the KESR on the first weekend of November when you're doing the Hayling thing. IoW is in the diary for a weekday in the second week of September, with fingers crossed for W8/W24.

I will be back in work at Havenstreet on Sunday, I have a feeling that it is 198 and 192 but will confirm on Sunday

Out of interest, is there any information on what might be operating on the Isle of Wight next Saturday? I'm considering heading over for the day, assuming it looks attractive enough! Also, how easy is it for visitors to see the locomotives and rolling stock not in operation?

I don't know exactly which one is rostered, perhaps Gary Walker could supply that, but you probably have either WD192 Waggoner, W24 Calbourne, W8 Freshwater or W11 Newport. If W38 Ajax has been repaired by then you could get that, but I doubt it as the roster will be planned by now.

Access to rolling stock etc is very good, as a large amount including the E1 and Ivatt 41313 will be stored in 'Train Story', the new storage shed / discovery centre. The walk round to this also takes you through the carriage workshop viewing area and around the back of the loco yard, so you can see most things. The loco works itself does not have public access I'm afraid (though in summer the doors are usually open) in there will be W37 Invincible, WD192 Royal Engineer, Ivatt 41298 and 'Nuclear Fred' the 05 diesel. The main prep area is adjacent to the platform so you can see very well from there.

You would be better to come on Sunday though as the goods set is out as well...

The Locos for the weekend on the roster board are 192 on the passenger and W8 on the Sunday goods.
