Work is now beginning at Buckfastleigh to return this vehicle to operational use at the earliest opportunity. The restoration will enhance the original parts of the carriage that currently remain (including the original round windowed vestibule doors and fully operational steps)around which will be added suitable seating and facilities to allow it to have a useful and varied operational career. To save many column inches and keep the average blood pressure readings down I will confirm at this early stage the the B4 Bogies will remain, as will the Oleo buffers and dual brakes. It is also our intention to retain the profesionally installed ex Mk1 toilet to increase the flexibility of use. The generator installed at Derby will however be removed. Progress will be updated on our 5542 and 169 websites at regular intervals.

photos would be welcome during restoration. Always had a soft spot for autotrailers since I visited Buckfastleigh days after the line re-opened and saw 4 in use with a 64xx...no idea which loco or trailers!

 

We intend to have plenty of pictures to go along with our reports. If you go to the reports on our site you will see some taken since delivery. We hope to update every couple of weeks
