Yes it's nice to see it on Set C as like you say it's in matching livery, but it would be nice to have seen a Stainer express locomotive on a rake of 9 Stainer period 3 coaches that's all, regardless of livery.

I'm not sure who's formed the opinion that it'd be at all inaccurate, to be honest. Whenever the topic of liveries is raised there always seems to be this belief that everything on rails was repainted on the night of 31st December 1947!

You are absolutely right - I have a book with a C class pictured at Dover in the mid 50s still in Southern livery

But I thought that was what happened! And while they were at it, every single pre-group and grouping carriage was scrapped and replaced with a fleet of Mark 1s.

It must be true, because that's how are preserved railways portray it, and they are living museums determined to get everything accurate, right? :)

And, going back a generation, I have pictures of LBSC and SECR wagons still in pre-grouping livery in the 1930s...

I think there's picture of GW prairie somewhere in wales (I think) in the late 50's still in Shirtbutton livery! It's just like the idealised view that you had matching rakes of stock in type and livery when in fact you didn't. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't appreciate that was the case even if a lot of pictures show it.
9 LMS coaches would work as it would be close to the length of 8 mark 1's which is the length of the loop at Hampton Loade.
Anyway, you can't see the colour of the coaches much if you're travelling in them;) nor the colour of the loco really unless you are window hanging for the trip ( andsometimes people don't even realise whether it's steam or diesel on the front.....).

It is possible to run 9 MK1s, or LNER equivalent on the SVR, as was done sunday. Actualy 7 + VV. There is an operating procedure where the long train is held until short is in platform. The long train can then go round the short. This does however rely on the short train fitting in the loop or main between the section signal and the fowling point

I know Dave, I've seen it done a lot, but it's not really something you want to have to do at a gala. We ran 8 coach trains at the 40's when number wise more would have been nice.

I've seen an old cine film of steam in the 50's in the north west. At the head of a train is an LMS loco in BR livery and the first carriage is in LSWR livery. Will try and dig it out at some point.

Steam Railway's Facebook page states this morning that Nellie now won't be attending due to over-running engineering work (presumably the fitment of the new steampipe). 925 Cheltenham is to attend in its place.

Chaps, can someone give me a bit of advice on this?

I'm planning on bringing the current Mrs Kingscross, and as a bribe I thought I'd book us a place in the observation car for brunch on Saturday morning. But can anyone tell me if you get a full round-trip for this, or is it a one-way only thing?

Also, what's the minimum achievable interchange time at Kidderminster? I take it four minutes (train from Birmingham arrives 1050, SVR train leaves 1054) is too tight. Or are they designed to connect subject to no delays?

    Thanks

The information leaflet quotes brunch / cream tea as a single £6 supliment so I think we can assume its a single trip.
    http://www.svr.co.uk/autumnsteamgala/#/2/

Your timing is too tight in my opinion as we don't work that closely with LM. Even if the trains ran to time 4 mins to get across the LM bridge and assimilate with the crowds around SVR entrance is risking it. I would seriously suggest an earlier LM train.

It is a single trip however I should point out that Brunch is £16.00 with the Cream Tea being £6.00.

I'd recommend 10 minimum, 15 ideally, the distance isn't the problem, more up and down the steps, negotiating the booking hall and getting tickets, then heading down the platform and boarding.
