Funny, because I was thinking of Cheltenham before it was announced on here about 850 not being available. Just a coincidence. The line-up just keeps on getting more interesting.

Am very much looking forward to my first visit to the SVR, it's a railway that I've been desperate to get to since I started filming back in 2008... now is my chance! :)

I was wondering though, does anyone know how one would go about purchasing a lineside permit/PTS certificates (if they are available to the general public, and not just to members/volunteers)? I can't see any mention of lineside permits on their website, so am curious to find out if they do them.

    Thanks in advance :)

The only way you can obtain a Lineside Pass at the SVR is through being a member...if you become a member, the pass is £25 for a year. Unfortunately, there is no other way of obtaining one. But to be honest, at the SVR you don't really need one, there are ample locations for photography/video/to watch the trains from this side of the fence, it's just a case of looking.

    Thanks,
    Lewis

It's available now on the SVR website as one of their event ticketing options, £5.50

Wish they would do a WSR and put it down by a few pound for the paying passengers, non travellers should pay a bit more.

Was thinking it would be free with a ticket like at the GC, what do you get for your £5.50. Do you not get a plain photocopied timetable showing locos ?

Unless it's been changed this year, you get the full working timetable ie what the staff will working from. Loco diagrams, set diagrams, light engine moves shown, etc.

TBH it's far too much - those of us who buy it are not really interested in all the shunting moves at Kidderminster and Bridgnorth.

A simpler, cheaper sheet just saying what loco is on which set on which turn would suffice

Tend to agree about the WTT too much information, I usually tear out the page or two for the day I'm attending, and bin the rest......

Dont forget Kidderminster has a turntable - only guarantee of loco directions is observation on the day.

Completely agree, but if people continue to buy it at £5+ a go, I can't see the SVR changing their minds on that one!

That's the problem, people keep buying it!

The chalk board at Hampton Loade usually has the loco allocations written down for each day so it's always worth having a look at that.

Got to agree the WTT is overkill, almost all mine goes in the bin, just need loco and stock for each train, direction of travel is also useful but can be gleaned with a quick recce at BN & BY early morning.

Whilst the HL board may be useful for on the day with such a big gala a WTT is uselful for both travellers and linesiders to plan moves/locations for the day ahead - and such planning is usually best done in the week beforehand rather than in a couple of minutes on the morning of the gala.

Would really like to see a 'WTT Light' at say £2-£3 rather than the £6.50 that it costs non-travellers. I would imagine the profit margin on a light version might be even higher than the full version that is curently on offer.

We have this same discussion about SVR WTTs every gala.
Swanage,SDR,GCR among others offer a free WTT to download.
If the SVR want to charge for a similar WTT fine, but at a sensible price and size.

Because of the number of pages in the WTT I assume they get it printed externally which is why it costs so much.
A cut down version should be free with advance ticket sales.
Photographers who are not traveling should have to pay for the full version.

Any idea of which way the Duchess will be facing ? You would assume that it will be facing smokebox first to Bridgnorth as that's the way it comes off the mainline but knowing SVR they'l turn it and and ruin a lot people's planning !
