It's a fair point Lil Bear, but why can't for example, the cost of a WTT be refunded against a rover ticket ?, I don't mind paying for one if not traveling, but if you are, chances are your already giving the railway a fair chunk of dosh.

Is it me or did last years WTT have loco directions on? This years seems to be missing them. (or i cannot see them) On the point of buying the timetable, i personally have no problem with it at all, i think £6.50 (including P&P) is fine. I do agree though that it could be refunded against buying a Ticket for the day.

One thing about issuing the full WTT vs. a summary for line-siders - the ops. department will have to compile and print the full WTT for signalmen, shunters guards, et al. There's no extra effort required to simply order 500 copies from the printer instead of 50. Whereas, someone has to produce a different summary WTT and submit a different order to the printer. It may be a relatively small task, but given all the other admin that goes into organising an SVR gala, I can see why they don't do what doesn't have to be done. £6.50 for more information than most of us need is actually a small price for a weekend of such good entertainment. However, I agree that a discount should be offered to everyone buying tickets - perhaps £3 each and the first copy free if you buy more than £50-worth of tickets would be fair?

IIRC, didn't the SVR publish coach, or loco (or both) allocations a couple of days before the gala online - not amounting to the full WTT, but enough so that you could see what was on what, and which way it was to face? Is that not going to happen this year? If not, why the backward step?

Also, have (obviously) yet to see the timetable, but would have thought that rotating 4936, 34053 and 46233 around both BR sets and the LMS set would have been sensible (if possible)?

That was for the Spring Gala as they haven't made the WTT available for that for a few years but it has never been put online for the ASG as that would undermine the point of selling the WTT to the public. It should be remembered though that WTT sales go towards the cost of putting on the gala so I don't see the problem with paying tbh as it is another way of supporting our hobby and ensuring events such as these continue to be held.

Any news of Met No. 1? Has she been repaired after the problems during the September Steam On The Met weekend?

I always like to double check this fact reach year just in case the railway has decided to have a change of heart from previous years and it never seems to be made publicly known, but will a one day rover be valid from the last service on the previous night, ie a saturday day rover would be valid from the 2300 off Kidderminster and the 2346 off Bridgnorth? I know that this is probably the case but better safe than sorry!

As mentioned diesel and steam events are 2 different markets, but lots of people do go to both and this is why you tend to get complaints about charging such a high price.I was at the NMYR for 2 days last week and was able to plan my trains and loco's a couple of days in advance, i am doing 2 days at this event and can't make any plans at all till i get to the railway and buy said publication.

    It does though seem :-
1, Diesel gala - passengers wont pay for a timetable
2, Steam gala - we can get away with charging for a timetable, even though most would be happy with an A4 sheet with loco info on.

One thing that has crossed my mind is the event is sponsored by Steam Railway Mag , could they not have printed the timetable and arranged for it to be reduced in price/given away to ticket holders.
The loco allocations though are only as good as the time it was printed and as we know things could well change before the event.

Ahh yes, i'm pretty sure you are correct. I'd just got it stuck in my head that I was helping a gent at Victoria Bridge who wanted to know when Bittern would be running on the teaks, but have just realised that Bittern came Spring 2012 and not for the Autumn Gala the previous year (as I originally thought).

RE: theonlyadsrulz, you may want to look at the following:

which should hopefully answer your query.

Regarding locomotive directions, I keep a thread running on the SVRA forum that should show what way each engine is facing. It's as up-to-date as the information I receive and have time to edit:

Unless 46233 is taking a trip around the Worcester triangle that's not indicated in the RTT timings, she'll run tender first from Shrub Hill to Kidderminster, so will face the same way as if she'd come from Stourbridge. In any case, a few minutes on the SVR turntable before going down to Bewdley or Bridgnorth is all that's needed.

I too would like to know as well, I'm seriously considering coming up for Saturday evening/night and into the early hours of Sunday morning, so until what time is the Saturday evening saver valid from, as I don't want to be mugged in the wallet twice, for a second ticket that I'm not going to get VFM from, as its going to cost a fair bit for fuel to get there and back never mind all the coffee & bacon butties I'm going to need!

Err, kind of, if I'm reading it right - treat the evening rover as finishing as the last train of the day?!? Fair enough............. 1am is probably a good time to think about heading home!!

One other question, where's the best place to park?
