Nice to see Peak Rail's Church Lane Crossing box (and kestreleyes - aka Dominic Beglin) on the free DVD given away with the October issue of The Railway Magazine just published.

Many thanks, your`e welcome, John and myself enjoyed the filming immensley, a whole day compressed into a few minutes with the good company of Mr Piggott himself and some good editing by the lady who did all the filming.

"BET DOMINIC WOULD LIKE TO PLAY WITH THAT" as Nick says when the sequence jumps to the interlocking in Severn Bridge Junction, yes yes I would but i think Riversides just as headscratching to do :D

On a similar line of note there is also an article in the IRSE news on Riverside and the recent trip their to view the signalling

I replaced the timber boards in church lanes uprights today and repainted these along with repainting six location cupboards between the drizzle and the sunny spells

    Locos

14901 was out in action on passenger turns with driver training

Down at Rowsley the HST were busy with some painting on the 07 and I had a chat with Steve who was working on the big end of the j94 undergoing restoration in the shed (at least now I know what a big end is!)
Other parts are also progressing well and it's always good to see a busy shed

The deisel crane is also in the process of a repainting as is the steam crane

Watching the "Crane Gang" on BBC2 brings back happy memories of moving Bamford Box, Ainscough's did the honours on that occasion. A long day but worth it

Was that when the story of the "Turdis" originated?

Which austerity undergoing restoration in the shed, is it Royal Pioneer or Swiftsure? I presume the Steve you refer to is Steve Latham?

    Thanks

Turdis: not exactly - there were two Turdis', the one that ended up in Dave Parker's garden came from the Buxton Site when the site was being cleared. We ended up putting the one from Bamford on its side in the hire lorry and drove to Darley Dale, you could follow the the blue chemical trail all the way from Bamford through Chatsworth to Darley Dale - probably should have stood it up in the lorry, you live and learn.

I'm not sure that the Turdis from Buxton ended up in my brother's garden...

Some excellent shots there, thanks for sharing. The event seemed popular and it was good to see the Class 14 and the 09 running.

The Turdis did make into your brothers garden - apparently neither he or the neighbour were too happy, I don't think it stayed there that long. Is he back in the UK, I haven't seen him in years

Yep he's back and still at the same place and still looks only 20 when he's actually pushing 55. I shall have to nudge him about the Turdis, I can't remember it but then I left the UK 24 years ago.

The turdis. I remember that thing well. Used to have a ton of signalling jammed in there around the throne made life awkward for number twos

Some more links to YouTube vids of the gala

Small update between the rain showers

John and myself changed over the beam on Church Lane box today that had rot in it, a new piece of sleeper has been spliced and mortised into the current timber hitch oddly enough appears to have had some repairs in BR times when it used to be up at Gorsey Bank

We also attended Riverside to remove some rubbing on one if the Down rods before I nipped up Rowsley to have a brew and helped Chris out

Elsewhere the deisel crane has had a repaint and the work on repainting the steam crane progresses with much removing of the old paint layers down to bare steel

The class 31 has had nameplates fitted "Athena". Looks very nice

its fully connected to the points and signals but until the ICP has completed all theyre testing it wont be signed off for use, it will be used and can be used in a degraded mode as a ground frame to run around, till then, some running around will occur over crimbo
