I'd been thinking that this would be a good tour to go on for the chance to ride behind 61306 on the main line, so I was excited to get an email today from RTC called "Special Discount for Wandering 1500".

When I read it, I came upon this info "The main part of the tour will be hauled by 70013 Oliver Cromwell"

So I guess 61306 is not doing it. UK Steam and the RTC website both still state that it is.

    Anyone have any further info?

(Sorry if relevant stuff is already posted elsewhere here, but I couldn't find anything.)

It looks as though the B1 is now in the quite large category of risky locomotives (delayed appearance/not available/unreliable etc). Whilst it's sad to lose 61306, I guess that 70013 is the logical substitute - actually, close to the only substitute! I'm still holding my breath on this whole trip as logistically it looks complicated to me and whilst I'd like to believe that every possible wrinkle has been worked through, we have form on such things to suggest otherwise. Nevertheless it looks to be a good day out and I'm looking forward to it.

I would hardly say 70013 is any less risky than 61306 given how many times Ollie has been pulled from tours and out of traffic.

I do wonder if the change is anything to do with how many coaches might be hanging off the back, at least as far as Norwich, seeing as it's gone from a class 5 to a class 7.

Shame about 61306. Anybody know what the problem is? I was very tempted to book on this tour, but 61306 has already been pulled from another tour and anyway the logistics look typical RTC lets plan it and hope! My bet is that a DL will be involved at some stage.

It was mentioned in the Steam Railway that a diesel would be involved between Norwich and the NNR.

No mention at all in Steam Railway. It went to Steam on the Met from the Mid Norfolk. Is it back at Quainton Road now ?

I thought I read on the Mid Norfolk Railway website 9466 was coming out of service for overhaul this autumn?

I thought it was always integral to the plan of the tour.

Don't let's set too many hares running on this one. I've just spoken to the RTC to check out whether I needed to have told them anything about my preferences for the Norwich-Holt leg that you can only do one way. They say that they are working on that at the moment and passengers will be allocated by them for one or the other direction. When I asked them to confirm whether there were any changes to the trip or the locos, the person I spoke to said that as far as she was concerned it was going ahead as planned although final timings were not yet with them.

UK Steam says we now have 70013 although the RTC site still shows 61306 (and the RTC does update it's site - eg as with the Cannon St to Victoria switch on Nov 9.). It's therefore hard to know what or who to believe especially when you've spoken to those who should have the info and they say that all is well.

So I'll just wait till the ticket arrives before I say much more

When the 'Titfield Thunderbolt' trip ran it was top and tailed Norwich-Holt and return with 34067 and 9466-no diesel.

I've had an Email from RTC confirming 70013 as the motive power. Needless to say, being RTC, no reason was given. Does anyone know if Cromwell is actually going to be 'fit to run'? Heard nothing since the tube problems after the Duchy.

This is in the news section of the 5305 la website:
"Meanwhile at Southall, 70013 Oliver Cromwell has been receiving some maintenance work and has undergone a boiler washout ready for its next series of main line charters". Sounds promising??!!

Oh well, with 70000 down south as well it looks like the run should have a suitable loco if not the one intended.
