But if Vintage Trains run the amount of charters they do from the the Tyseley platform then surley it would be required to have the line out to the main line up-graded to passenger use? I dont know if it has been done but I would imagine its a requirement.
My reason for asking about not standing up when leaving is that my reason for doing charters is to see and hear the loco and do video..I realise that its not everybodys idea of a day out, by a window all day,but thats my thing. Not for me to sit in a carriage and watch the scenery go by..If I cant get a decent window then my day will be devalued..sitting at the back of the Western Wessexman from Weymouth to Tame Bridge was not my ideal few hours..especially with 1015 on the front..

It may be connected to the fact(?) that the move out of Tyseley to the main line is considered as a "shunt"move - and subject to tight regulation. I well remember occasions in the 1950s when Sunday engineering works meant Birmingham - Edinburgh trains on the WCML trains setting back over trailing points to work "wrong line" whilst in the 1970s a similar move on the Midland Main Line at Kettering meant passengers detraining at the platform until the move was completed. I would venture the thought that the Tyseley move comes under similar regulation thus - for passenger safety - the rule of being seated during the move has been imposed.

Ben will know but I've always understood that it was because it's not technically part of the national network that is authorised to carry passengers. And the Tyseley 'start' point is a special dispensation for which the rule over passengers was imposed.

Gosh – it must be a slow day on NatPres if my dress sense, or lack thereof, is mentioned! Lol

The young lady in question has agreed to be the future MrS Mason and Ralf I must agree, she is stunning. What she is doing agreeing to marry me, only she knows! I am a lucky man.

Now – back to railway related stuff!

It is a directive and a condition from the HMRI to enable us to run a passenger train over a goods line. For VT to start passenger trains from our own Warwick Road platform, all non-crew must be seated for the 1/3 mile journey from our platform onto the passenger network. We say on the train that passengers must be seated as far as Small Heath because it is an easily recognizable marker. Nothing to do with the quality of the track!

On Saturday we ran over 400 miles behind D1015 “Western Champion”. If not being able to stand for 1/3 mile at the beginning and end of the journey is going to deter you from traveling with us, then I am sorry but I think you need to have a long look in the mirror and evaluate your expectations!

The catering was in the very capable hands of Bill and Christian. I had to force myself to sit on my hands and not interfear! But a glass of wine soon distracted me.
